Hi guys,

Is there a way which I can do a speed test to make sure my hard drives are operating at their fullest speed?

I have several external USB 3 hard drives, and I am getting a bit tired from the speeds that they transfer it at. I am not sure if my expectations of USB 3 are/were too high, but to transfer files it is taking an age!

Anyone point me in the direction of a test, or be able to give me an idea of what speed I should expect in Windows when transferring files/folders?

Thanks all

Edit:

Here is a CrystalDiskMark of a WD Elements 1TB, slow?

what files are you moving about? I get slower speeds on smaller files than I do if moving HD movies etc.

are you on windows 10? maybe see if there is any better USB 3 drivers for your mobo.

I have a external USB 3 seagate drive 3TB, ill run same test in a bit

edit, here are my results

copying from a HDD to usb 3 external HDD (YouTube video backup) this dropped to about 30mb

copy%20-%20HHD%20to%20HDD.png

backing up the installation folder of the division, SSD to same HDD max speed was 56.2mb
