What kind of resolution can really show the difference between this card and X1900 XT-X? Am I right to say that for 1280x1024 and below there's no difference? My monitor is only 19'' and I don't know if buying X1900XT-X is a waste as I don't play games at 1600x1200 very often.

These are great cards for the price. £235, its a bargin.

Basically at normal res's like 1024x768 the 2 cards are going to perform the same, sometimes the 256mb card getting a few more fps, even with a high AA / AF setting. The extra 512mb only kicks in once you go to higher res's such as 1280 x 1024, 1600 x 1200 etc. Depending on what res you play games at etc would depend on, if it would be better getting the extra 256mb. For most people this card would be more than enough to cope with games...

X800 cards old tech. Best off getting a X1800 series card atleast. I know the X850's are good cards but with more and more games depending on the latest DX and SM3.0 support, its worth upgrading...

How would this compare in performance with a similarly priced 7800GT?

They should be a bit faster I would imagine.
The GTX is about equal with the X1800XT
and the GT is a little slower so this card should be faster. Better bang for buck I would think.

But then you can get GTs a lot cheaper.

Would be interested to see any reviews of the 256MB vs. the 512MB to see if the extra RAM actually makes any difference... I'm a 1600x1200 boy, so it might actually come in hand for me to have more RAM. That's the only thing holding me back from the buy button right now :p

Cheers,

Just sold my X1800 XL, and bought myself one of these :)

It's been shipped, should be here tommorow before 1pm. I've had very successfull overclocks with all my ATi cards, especially with my XL getting 9800 points in 05. My aim is to break 10k with this, if i do that then i'll be more than happy :)

In another thread Gibbo's already said the Ram does make a difference, i think it was about 10-20fps more. :)
