Hi, sent a question to Silverstone regarding there PSU and dual connector video cards and got this response which sort of sounds like they intend to release a more powerful one:

Hello Matthew,
Thanks for your interest in SG05.
Unfortunately, the 300W power supply in SG05 just has 1 * 6-pin PCI-e power connector, but the HD5850 need 2 * 6-pin connector, so the 300W power supply in SG05 cannot support the HD5850, but we will bring up a bigger power supply which can fit in SG05 / 06 and it has 1 * 6-pin and 1 * 6+2-pin PCI-e power connector which can support HD5850 and can support the CPU "E8400".
And the internal space of SG05 is 26.5cm (deepth) and HD5850 is 24.13cm (9.5 inch) and with after it is pulgged the power connector will need a space which is about 26cm.

Best Regards

Given the power requirements of the 5850, wouldn't it work on the stock PSU?

Sure, it would be close, but it's quite a bit less than the 5870, and not much more demanding than the 4870, which we already know to work.

If it "officially" supports an HD5850, you're probably looking at around 450W or more. Which would mean it might even be strong enough to get a 5870 in (but then you get size constraints).

Yeah the 5850 does work ok with the stock case but I think the problem might not be related to total power draw, but because the PSU is designed to offer enough power to a powerful GPU via only 1 PCI-E connector, so the fact that you have to connect 2, means you're drawing power from the connectors allocated to the other components..

This is all layman bull**** because I'm not an electrician, and it all worked ok when assembled with an E8400...

One weird symptom I encountered is that games stuttered in places when the game introduced enemy soldiers and only smoothed out once dispatched, exact same components but with an ATX board, P35 chipset and 500w PSU and there is no issue?

Did get the impression that the card is way overpowered and a waste of money to be kept in this box given that all but a few of the latest games would be flawless really on a 5770 anyway..

Yeah the stuttering sounds like PSU not being able to keep up - it downclocks the card when that happens to lower the power requirements, so you get uneven frame rates.

I can share a little more on this unit:

Market availability - Late December or Early January
Standalone retail part - yes
Power rating - 450W with single +12V@36A

I have no pricing information at this time.

I think you should be able to get away with the stock PSU if you're running a GTX260. :)
Not sure if this is so. Under the psu test in OCCT Perestroïka 3.1.0 my SG05 with Q9550 and EVGA GTS250 512Mb hits 325W. In order to be on the safe side, I am permanently undervolting the Q9550 to its LFM, 1.100V. This reduces the maximum power consumption at 2.83GHz to 285W. The idle power consumption is 72W and remains the same with EIST (2GHz, 6x, 1.100V), and undervolted without EIST (2.83GHz, 8.5x, 1.100V).
