Yup.

Here's my semi-mobile desktop:

Being a tiny case that sardines would view as cramped with appalling cooling etc I naturally overclocked it.

E8400: 3000 -> 3343MHz
5570: 650/900 -> 900/1100MHz

[Ambient = 21]

The CPU runs acceptably warm when you consider where it is and that the cooler is about a quarter smaller than the stock Intel C2D cooler.

3000 MHz Idle: <40 degrees
3000 MHz IBT : <65 degrees
3343 MHz Idle: <40 degrees
3343 MHz IBT : <75 degrees*

*could go higher before becoming "stable" under OC load. Only did 5 loops in IBT. The components in the case warm up and insulate over time because of the high density and low airflow.

The passive GPU is similarly cosy.

650/900MHz Idle: <45 degrees
650/900MHz 3D06: <70 degrees
900/1100MHz Idle: <52 degrees
900/1100MHz 3D06: <80 degrees

It's passive because placing a very small fan trying to suck air in the opposite direction to the much larger fan in the PSU less than a centimeter away is an exercise in wasting energy.

That, along with the case pictures should explain how naff the airflow is to the card and PSU so no cooling records are going to be broken.

This is to be reasonably capable in a few games so a maximum practical of: 9623 in 3DMark06 isn't too shabby.

In general use it's very nippy with the SSD, noise is low but not inaudible. Only thing I'd like to do is arrange better airflow for the PSU, probably a lost cause given all the wiring.

Aside from that, good semi-portable fun* :)

*its the 10 USB ports that really make the difference :D

Cheers :)

I was surprised myself to see how much could fit in there.

The temperatures weren't nearly as bad as I'd expected either. I know of desktops running along with worse temps :p

I won't push any more overclocks, I had to find the cmos jumper and reset it (and lost it among the cables twice :/), a far cry from the handy external reset button on the Maximus GENE III motherboard in my main rig ^_^

Standard case but it's not in the normal sized computer shops.

It's a Jou Jye 528i 220W.

A disturbingly high wattage internal PSU in a very small case which has a low profile expansion slot and a slim optical bay.

Just the thing for a compact desktop.

It has been modified to allow two 2.5" drives instead of one and the strut across the case had a bit cut off to get the graphics card in.
