Dude saw me parking in the disabled spot the other day. He had a moan at me and asked me just what was wrong with me. "**** OFF, I'VE GOT TOURETTE'S!"

You have to admit that to an onlooker it's an absolutely hilarious disease, strange though (and pretty sad for people who have it).

Search on YouTube for "Tourettes I Swear I Can't Help It Highlights". If you don't laugh you're a better person than me.

Yeah I think it was on last year.

Must be an incredibly embarrassing illness as you can't tell that they have tourettes straight away.

I don't think many people would mess with the scottish guy anyway.

It seems like they cant control their thoughts, if they have an idea to do something, they do it even though they don't want to, it must be awful.

Not at all, funnily enough someone with tourettes was in front of me in the bank last week; had his DS (switched off) in his hand and couldn't stop shouting about space invaders (the classic arcade game I hope) just had this wistful smile on my face thinking of the arcades of my youth anyway

Tourettes or not, someone saying those things out loud is funny to most people, it's what has been said in the location, not the problem we laugh at. I would hope they'd realise it too, see the funny side themselves and be glad some of us know they have that problem instead of stare at them like they are idiots. I'm sure they've had to deal with a lot worse than people harmfully giggling.

I'm watching this now, yeah it's difficult not to laugh at some things they say, the young lad (15 year old) has made me smile a couple of times, I think it was really poignant when he said the best day he ever had was when he only ticked once in a whole day, kind of puts things into perspective for us 'normal' people.

ive never felt really sorry for anyone before that must have been pure hell for that kid when they was showing him in his younger years!

and i don't think they was playing for the camera at all cause of the people around them there expressions and faces didn't actually seem like it was any different to them!

that "ready steady cook" thing had me in tears i would a laughed so hard if i was in his school class lol!

I'm going to hell.

Poor blokes though, I can't imagine what they go through on a daily basis.

Amusing stuff (though not for the sufferers, obviously). Anyone remember this episode of South Park?

thing is... why do they tend to SWEAR a lot and not just shout out random words?

what if someone who had 'toutettes' grew up in an environment that included NO SWEARING... would he even have tourettes, or would he just shout random words?

or would that disprove that tourettes requires kiddy gloves?

Please read the FAQ regarding signatures

I've thought of this too. It would be an interesting comparison.

I still think about the Southpark episode where Cartman hears a lad with Tourettes in a supermarket and suddenly he's got the 'Golden Ticket'

I find it interesting that a lot of people (In here too) talk about how "It's not right to laugh", yet watching the show the majority can't help but laugh at each other. Especially when they're in the room with the woman from the CAB, she's joining in on the fun and they seem like they're having a good time.

I don't see it much different from when you're out walking your kid and he decides to go "Daddy daddy that man smells!" at the top of his voice. Is it inappropriate? Perhaps. But it's still bloomin funny.

It seems like most of what they come out with is directly connected to the situation they're in, basically like they can't keep their thoughts to themselves.

It's a type of disease that they know they have, but cannot control, they'll be more on edge with the cameras there and therefore more nervous.

I remember seeing a show about 2 or 3 years ago about the guy who had it the worst in Britain, felt so sorry for the guy

Think he had a job in a mail sorting office or something. It's the type of condition that you would need to be around the same people day in day out if you're going to have a job -ie a non public facing job.

It is hard not to laugh, but it must be so damn hard to live with

That's a little different though, kids are just blunt because they don't know any better. Tourettes people seem to think of horrendous things to say, and just blurt them out; as you said they're usually directly connected to situations they are in, or things that they can see
