well i just upgraded from a normal 1920x1080 monitor to a hazro h27wc which has a resolution of 2560x1440.I was amazed at how much better BF3 looked at this res.

When i purchased the monitor i thought that i would have to upgrade my graphics card to be able to run BF3 at such a high res with everything turned up max.

Im using 2 x powercolor pcs+ hd4890 (the fastest factory overclocked 4890 available) please bear in mind that these are the most powerfull DX10.1 cards available.

just finished benchmarking BF3 with everything at Ultra, with no AA (not required at this res i honestly cant tell the difference with it on or off) and Motion blur off (hate it)

Fraps results @ 2560x1440 everything ultra, no aa and no motion blur tested on full 64 player sharqi FOV 80

Frames 68716

Time (ms) 1076033

Min 20 fps

Max 146 fps

Avg 63.860 fps

Turns out i have lost about 20 fps compared to running at the same settings @ 1920x1080 and im very pleased with the way my cards are still performing.

Using ati 11.11 drivers these seem to be the best for my setup game runs perfect with no stutter

System spec

i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz
Asrock extreme4 gen3 motherboard
8gb 1600mhz kingston hyper ram
Corsair TX850 psu
Crossfire Powercolor pcs+ hd4890
Corsair A70 cooler
OCZ Agility SSD
Win7 64bit

This might be due to no DX11 so the settings wont be true ultra settings if this makes sence..

But i did exsperience a smiular thing moving from 2xgtx275s (simular cards to you) in metro when i i got 470's, the DX11 options take a massive performance hit.

dont care much for dx11 dont think the difference between dx10.1 and dx11 warrants the outlay of big money, still plenty of life left in the good old 4890 crossfire.

to get that sort of performance with a dx11 card or cards would cost a lot

With the FPS dipping to 20 that's hardly close to 'pwning'

Though with some settings dropped you should be fine to have 30+ at your native res

It's hardly pwning BF3 is it? First off, 20 fps mine, second no DX11.

doesnt drop to 20 fps during gameplay the 20 fps figure is when you first spawn, during gameplay lowest i have seen it drop to is 35 fps and its very smooth

bf3 uses very little tesselation and that makes it very difficult to tell the difference between dx10 and dx11

For me gaming is about enjoying the games you play.
From what I can see he is enjoying his 4890's in crossfire so that's pretty cool.

Yeh it may be missing the DX11 tesselation and other bits, but he reckons it's okay... So fair enough...
With that monitor and a 7970 though imagine what it would be like...

I had loads of problems with my 4890 crossfire
seems that ATI stopped supporting them when the 5870 series came out.
and the drivers gradually got worse.

good to see your setup doing well at higher resolutions.

I'm beginning to think thats what's going to happen when the 7xxx series are well on their way with drivers for the 5xxx range. Should any new bugs with game patches appear.

i think ATI make the drivers worse on purpose to force people to upgrade

Mine of 20fps and a max of 146.... hmmm consistant.

TBH though I don't really see why this should be a surprise. HD4890's were and still are a pretty potent card. Assuming good scaling (which seems to be the case if you look at the overall average) they can still pull decent framerates in even the latest games, sans DX11 of course.

Agreed.

Also, with all due respect. I wouldn't be very happy if I were getting 20 FPS as minimum.
