Hi there

Sapphire are joining in the game with a Tahiti LE based cards with their 7870 XT. However Sapphire know what awesome clocking machines these can be and have equipped it with a very high-end cooling system which cools a lot better than the coolers being offered by some of the other manufacturers at present. Check the card out:-

Sapphire HD 7870 XT 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card @ £199.99 inc VAT

The SAPPHIRE HD 7870 XT with Boost delivers a new price:performance point to the series. It is based on AMD’s Tahiti architecture with its 256-bit memory interface, and 1280 stream processors and 80 Texture units, unlike the remainder of the HD 7800 series that uses the Pitcairn architecture. Configured with 2GB of high speed GDDR5 memory running at 1500 MHz (6GHz effective) the SAPPPHIRE HD 7870 XT has a core clock of 925MHz which dynamically rises to 975MHz with PowerTune Boost, AMDs dynamic performance enhancement for games.

For enthusiasts wishing to maximise performance of this graphics card, the latest version of the SAPPHIRE overclocking tool, TriXX supports this technology and is available free to download from the SAPPHIRE website. SAPPHIRE TriXX allows tuning of GPU voltage as well as core and memory clocks, whilst continuously displaying temperature. Manual control of fan speed is supported, as well as user created fan profiles and the ability to save up to four different performance settings.

Nearly 7950 performance out of the box, but with overclocking can pass 7950 making it quite the bargain. Though of course do realise we have 7950's starting from £210 at OcUK so many of you will just preferre to buy the real deal and clock one of them, but for those interested in something different, this is a great option. :)

Yeah, I saw it benched in a couple of reviews (the Club3D and VTX version).

What got me about the reviews was that they didn't mention whether they were benching against the first original 800MHz 7950 or the 850/925MHz 7950 Boost Edition.

If it was against the 800MHz 7950 the benches didn't look so good.

If it was against the 7950 Boost then the benches would look a whole lot better.

EDIT: After looking at the reviews again I would have to say the because they don't specify that the 7950 are Boost Editons or OC models that they are just the original 800MHz models, in which case the comparison with this Tahiti LE doesn't look so good.

Here are the "Tahiti LE" reviews I am looking at:

The HD7870 LE should have 1536 shaders not 1280 as the latter is the same number as the HD7870.

The Sapphire website lists the same number and AFAIK this is wrong,as the VTX3D HD7870 LE has 1536 shaders which makes more sense.

No one in the right mind would buy this over a 7950!

You dont even get any free games with it and the 7950 probs drop in price more in Jan.

Chances are they'll go back to normal pricing around the time the 7870 LE releases :p
