Question £500-£700 gaming PC build

I'm interested in building my own gaming rig but I'm not the best with computer components. Also I would like a small case. So I need some help!
Many Thanks!

hi! we need some information first, do you already have a mouse? keyboard? hard drive etc? widescreen monitor? a copy of windows?

also! is the budget £500 or £700? we'll always spec you the best we can, so expect mostly people aiming for £700

And by 'small case' do you mean mATX? Or just a relatively small ATX case?

in case you're not aware OP, there are different sizes of motherboard (it's not too important really) but if you get micro ATX instead of ATX it will fit in smaller cases, but most people have ATX Builds

Hey, Mouse, keyboard & monitor I already have but other than that nothing & the budgets in-between I don't mind people aiming for the more expensive

I don't mind too much just also as its smaller than a normal tower. Its because my room is pretty small.

my offering: if you could use the trial of windows 8 instead and upgrade to a full OS later, you could squeeze in an SSD, i included an optical bay, a cooler so you can overclock your CPU (that cpu really needs to be overclocked a little bit at least) the 280x graphics card should play pretty much anything on ultra at 1080p right now

in an ideal world id have specced intel, but honestly it's rare that CPU bottleneck actually causes a game to run *badly*, and with mantle on its way and a trend towards games using more cores, the 8320 could end up being a smarter choice than we can predict right now! (don't misunderstand, it's still a high end CPU)
