Hi All,

I just ordered the Panasonic SC-HTE80 and i was wondering best way to set it up when it arrives.

I have the following devices i wish to pass through sound.

sky reciever
kodi media pc

both devices have hdmi.

here is the image of the back of the soundbar

if i just plug the hdmi cable from arc out to my arc input on my panasonic tv. will it pass the sound to all my other hdmi connected devices?

Normally ARC would be done Via the TV so you would plug it into the HDMI with the ARC label and then any sound the TV has comes through the sound board.

I see, so all my other connected hdmi devices that normally play sound through my tv will now also come through the soundbar.

I see there is another port called hdmi input for bluray/dvd. I take it this is for audio processing ? like dolby pro logic etc

How do these things work with the volume control on the TV? I'd quite like to add something small like this to improve the audio on my Samsung TV (which has ARC), but I'm not really interested in having to use a second remote control to control volume.

The other port is mainly to use as a backup i think as using ARC means you will lose a port on the TV, i have my Xbox one in the TV my sound bar, and my Firestick, then my 360 is in the Bluray port on the bar.

The TV will also control the volume of the board with it's main remote

Normally the TV will control the volume of the Board/Bar through ARC, you need to activate Viera link or simple link or what ever Samsungs link is called now, and once done it will power the device on and off and adjust the volume also.

Just a note, but if you put all your HDMI sources through the TV and rely solely on ARC then the TV will reduce the audio signals to the lowest common denominator. For a lot of TVs that means basic stereo. You might be lucky and find that your TV passes DD5.1 and maybe even DTS in stereo only (2.0), but you can wave goodbye to any HD audio.

If the sound system is a simple 2.0 or 2.1 soundbar (as in the SC-HTE80) then the above really doesn't matter. The sound would have to be converted to stereo anyway once it hits the audio device, so whether it's done in the TV or later on makes no difference. This sort of thing is more important if installing one of the virtual surround systems or a full 5.1 or 7.1 surround kit.

I have just received this and its amazing. I was originally going to get a soundbar but opted for a soundbase platform.

its a small form factor and powerful sound and base is surprising.

I got the arc setup to my Panasonic tv. Unfortunately my tv doesnt support vera link, but does support cec and power off link.

The sound comes through tv and soundbase. i don't know if this is normal ?, i do get a echo double audio thingy happen. so I prefer to lower the tv sound and keep the soundbase volume high.

I have plugged in my kodi box via the hdmi input at the back to passthrough the sound directly and do the DTS and Dolby audio processing and its produces really amazing sound.

That sounds promising!

I bought one which has been delivered today...

At the price point I paid it ticked all the boxes and seemed the best deal.
