Hey guys, just wanting some guidance here, im in the throws of totally gutting the bathroom, now on the electrics side im actually having a bath with jets in there and im also having some GU10 flush ceiling lamps.

Now i know new regs stipulate that wiring must be carried out by a PART P dude, well im cutting corners to a point, im going to run the wires in myself and just get a sparky in to connect it all up.The dangerous stuff will still be done by the sparky, but i want to do all the labour intensive stuff!

Any how the electric supply has to be on a RCD protected circuit, what about the lighting circuit? I have run the wires across the ceiling, and i plan to fit a RCD on the outside of the bathroom, there is a feed going into the bathroom already which is coming from the kitchen the RCD is going to go between the kitchen and bathroom (ie disconnecting the feed and putting the RCD in).

Cheers for any advice chaps

I am training to become an electrician so I will help you out as much as I can.

The RCD should be on your consumer unit ( the box with all the fuses or Circuit Breakers in ) If your house is fairly modern ie; wired in the last 5 years it should have an RCD on it.

As far as I know, if you current consumer unit does not have an RCD fitted I am fairly certain that by the regs you don't need one, although if you update your old consumer unit they all come with one standard.

The RCD will protect every circuit, because the mains to the house will go straight into it.

Hope that answers your question.

Speak to the Electrician that's going to be connecting everything up, he will tell you what is required.

do it all yourself, tbh who is going to know!! My dad did all the electric in my bathroom, he fitted proper light switches as well, low voltage of corse, like 1v light switches
