Right, its problem time again! I wanted to update the bios on my p5w-dh earlier so downloaded the Asus update utility and installed. I also got latest bios which was 2306 or something as mine was still 17XX I think. Anyway, started to Asus Update, which cleared previous bios then announced it couldnt find a bios from the file I had downloaded, promptly shut itself down. I tried going into the program again but it announced it couldnt find a bios. I restarted to try and see ifbios was there but alas its not posting or anything now, just sat with no display and all fans on full blast?

I tried resetting the CMOS jumper and removing battery but what do I do if I really lost the bios? Rest of system is C2D 2.4, 4gb Geil pc6400, x1900, Vista 64 Ultimate.

Advice greatfully received as I am a total bios nub

'fraid it's all over ! RMA time, or perhaps you can get a replacement BIOS chip.....

One of a spate of BIOS flashes failing with ASUS Update from Windows......did it myself just a couple of weeks back with a Blitz mobo and had to RMA it :( ...... now back on my P5WDH and won't ever flash from Windows again....use a USB key/CD-R etc., ASUS have made it all quite friendly for such......

Damn, thats pants. Is it new mobo time then? Hmph! I am going off the Asus site rapidly also....

Don't need a new mobo....just a new BIOS chip - can be pretty cheap, really, search this forum and there are threads covering places to go.....DIY job :)

Oh cheers Kev, Ive found a link to Grains Bios Repair (not a comp are they? Sorry if they are!) so will give them a shout if Asus arent much help.

Would it still qualify for RMA from the place it was purchased from (not here unfortunately) if its 13 months old?

Ta, M.

This is one of the decent ASUS boards that does have a removable BIOS chip.
See say here (back of PCI slot)

I use this place for BIOS chips.

Thanks split, replacement chip ordered and should be arriving tomorrow! £12 or so is well worth not waiting to go through the pain (and time) of support channels me thinks :D

Indeed......why, oh why did ASUS start to solder the BIOS chips on the board again on later ones :(

Be interested to know how you get on.
Have to admit, it's not exactly in a nice place to remove :(

Just thinking....would this work on the newer boards.

We also offer a service to convert your motherboard/pcb from 'hard-soldered' to a removeable solution, please see below:-

Means you have to send them board tho :(

Just for update, got new chip friday morning so great service from that place and would recommend again. Everything working now so I'm a happy boy again :D

Meanwhile still not heard anything from the supplier I bought it from (not OCUK) apart from to contact ASUS who had in turn pointed me at the supplier for support. Thought that was a bit crap really myself :/
