What is your Overclock sweetspot?

Hia all,

Most of us are able to get the maximum overclock out of our equipment; the cost of this is usually investing in much better cooling and living with the extra heat and noise.

Since I got my E6400 I have lived with pumping 1.4V Vcore (+100Mv) to get my 3.2Ghz out of it, mainly due to quite bad Vdroop on this board. Temps were always 65-70C after 5 mins of Orthos and stayed that way for 24 hour Orthos stable. I was considering investing in quite expensive watercooling to try and lower my temps.

Then I did something quite drastic - I dropped my Overclock  back down to 3.0Ghz (375FSB) best thing is I can get this completely stable with only 1.3125V Vcore. Temps are always <58C :) and I can now drop my NB Volts to Auto and my memory too. Also I don't notice the drop in performance at all, just cooler and quieter.

Here is my screenie - Sorry just refomatted and added Raid0 so I lost my Orthos stable shots - call Shins if you like I don't care :p

So come on then what is your Overclock sweetspot - Where you get slightly less performance but for a big gain in heat and dropping the Volts?

q6600 G0 @ 3ghz on 1.1125v :D

i run it at 3.6 1.4250v though

I'll try and get some screenies when i get back from work to prove this.. :)

I have my G0 Q6600 at a mild 3Ghz, partly because its my first ever overclock so im a little hesitant of going a bit further (for the time being ;))

Nothing wrong with that. I'm not so keen on the idea of spending a lot of money on watercooling just to overclock. For me, spending money to overclock defeats the whole point. Well, apart from maybe a decent £25 cooler. When people used to buy really expensive ddr1 memory just because it was known to overclock well i used to think but you have paid for that speed, you havent achieved it.

Good point. My trouble is I always want what others have got... maybe reading these boards is bad for me lol.

@ VIper - Wow low Vcore there, are all Q6600 G0s that low on Vcore? What is the VID if I may ask? My E6400 reports incorrectly because it is an ES, I believe the VID may be 1.3250

1.25v is stock. I just bumped the fsb to 334mhz to get 3ghz, voltage was on auto at the time, it set it to 1.2v apparantly, but i suffered from bad vdroop, and was reporting 1.125v, set it to that, and it was stable, lowered it, it was still stable :D

Pencil volt modded now, and reports the vcore almost spot on :D

My E6400 won't go over 3.2GHZ no matter what i do, it's running 3.248ghz right now but doesn't do more than 2 minutes in Orthos, so not much point in claiming that it's completely stable, although it never ever crashes in normal usage.
Simply think my motherboard drops the voltage too much, and seeing as there is no NB voltage option either it might be that too, but i'm not complaining for my first processor overclock ever :)

My E6400 is running at 3.4GHz at the moment, doesnt go higher than 58c on max load. :D I am chuffed to bits considering I got this DS3 board and the E6400 for £105.

Heh, at the moment my E4500 wont go higher than stock without hitting 70C! I accidentally scratched the heatspreader on the bottom of the CPU cooler, so I need to change that really!
