8800GTS worth the extra for a 640mb?

Hiya Gang

I am on the verge of getting an 8800GTS 640MB (Probably a gigabyte one).

I was going to spend a max of £200 on a card, but I figure its probably worth the extra £30 for double the ddr of the 320mb card.

Does anyone have any advice either way? (i.e. Get an 8800GTX).

Keep in mind, I don't wanna sway too far past the £200 mark!

Cheers
DB

That's a competitor, and you'd be mad to pick one of these up when the 2900 Pro is so much cheaper and pretty similar in performance.

TBH I would go for the 640mb...the extra memory will help with upcoming games like Crysis and those using the UT3 engine

I was in the same boat as you, but I game at 1920x1200. Somehow I managed to justify the extra from the GTS320 to the GTS640, and once I'd done that it was a doddle to persuade myself that another £60 wasn't too much for the extra oomph a BFG 8800 GTX OC would bring to the show. And now £300 later I'm all eye-candied up.

Lovely.

Hard to say which is best because the 2900Pro vs 8800GTS is a close match. Pro's should get to XT speeds but 8800's also overclock like mad.

Both are great cards and I guess you can't go wrong with either.

To be honest for some of todays modern games and games coming out in the coming year or two i think you will want 512mb or more of vram to be playing them on high settings.

Get the 8800GTS 640MB, the whole point of buying the 2900pro is with the intention of overclocking but if you overclock the 8800 GTS 640MB is still the better choice.
