So far me and the mrs has spent £100 on decoration for a halloween house party.

The house is being themed

Hallway and Stairs...Graveyard with skellies and headstones and cobwebs

Front room....witches lair, with a big couldron in the middle of room for a punch, bats which fly around the room, a giant blow up coffin for putting ice/drinks in, skull fog machine with lights

Kitchen....the blood and guts room, table cloth with blood all over it, limbs scattered around the room, and blood scattered.

We have got about 1/2 of the decorations, so estimating to spend aprox £200 on decorations

Every attending must be in fancy dress, I have a zombie costume(£40 from ebay), and the mrs is a sexy witch, my lad (4 years old) has a spider costume

Am I mad.....oh and I have got a copy of the halloween music for playing in the hall way too.

I forgot all about halloween, I think it's a bit much to spend, but I guess you can always re-use the stuff?

i read the thread title and thought "if you have to ask that ?, then yes"

But upon reading the post, no. Your kid(s) will love it, it should be a great party. it should make you feel much happiness, which is what spending money is for.

You should tell the mrs though, that skree from t't interweb says you must spend 5x your decoration budget on alcohol for any party, as it's just.. well, the one unbendable party rule. This will be good for the adults present. :D

Ah halloween, the made-up Americanised POS that is completely meaningless, and just an excuse for kids to a) beg, and b) be a pain in the **** with eggs and loo rolls

Should be banned tbh, anything that makes out that its acceptable to beg is bad news IMO.

EDIT: Not to mention the whole commercialised side of things.

oh dear, someones fun motor is burned out, better order a new one

Why do people assume just because someone has hatred/dislike of something, it means that they are suddenly without any sense of light-heartedness.

The OP requested opinions, I gave one. I did NOT ask to be ridiculed or mocked regarding my choice.

There are many ways in which to have fun, but to celebrate a corporate-hyped pseudo-holiday certainly isn't on my list of "how to have a good time". Its a tacky, un-sophisticated, and wholly pathetic waste of resources.

Why not just have a themed house party of your choosing, rather than pay-in to the whole patheticness of "halloween"?

Imagine if someone broke into your home, he'd have a heart attack and would be mentally scarred for life :D

lol I love halloween. Americans do it much better than we do though...

So true, I went over there about 9/10 years ago (that makes me feel old!) and stayed for a couple of weeks with some family friends in N.Carolina, the whole town really had a spirit for halloween, all the shops would be decorated, and roads painted.

You put it out there and people will comment - we all have opinions :)

To have fun, nothing more, nothing less. I don't answer the door to trick or treaters and never will, because I don't find it fun. The OP's party sounds great though.

Correct, but being mocked is taking things a step too far. By all means disagree with me (diversity is what makes life interesting), but do it with some tact.

ok, i think it's stupid that you think it's stupid, why spend your time posting on an internet forum...wait a minute, could it be because you enjoy it? nuff said

I hate halloween bah humbug

If it gives people a sense of enjoyment then why not? I don't particularly like halloween myself, but I did when I was a child.

As for the "mocking you" part, you're basically ridiculing the OP for holding such a party, so don't be too upset about people thinking you're a grumpy old stooge.
