I've just decided to run 3dm05 on vista, to compare how much it's slower than xp, as xp feels faster, but was greeted by this:

Any idea where the 4k extra cpumarks came from and if it's possible my xp is malfunctioning, infact it was hard enough to get xp so high, vista was like that on the first run ( with everything running in the background ).
100 3dmarks extra too .

Specs on the pic and its vista x64 ultimate and xp x86 pro.

Or is vista really faster than XP on this day  ?

drivers issues i think. i had this before. vista was faster than xp till new drivers came out then xp was faster than vista.

I've tried it on hundreds of xp drivers though, that's the highest I ever came in xp.
When I do xp now I get 4900 ish.
So you really recon it's impossible?
What should I get in xp with my 6800GS then you recon?

Is the Vista install a lot newer with less background programs running?
That's the only thing I can think of.

But making so much of a difference in cpu tests, very odd.

check on xp to see if anything is running (a program using the cpu at 100%) if so, close it and benchmark again...

xp should be abit faster than vista..

Could it be NOD32?
It's the only thing I didn't ever shut down in xp (forcing nod32krn.exe to shutdown re-runs it) , while in vista, I have no AV.
It's the only app that I haven't closed in xp, when I did that bench in xp, ot get that score I had to reduce the processes to like 18 or something ( usually I have 49 ).
I don't have any more than 1% cpu usage in xp while idling.

it wouldn't be nod32. i have nod32 on all 3 OS's (vista64, vista32, xp) and it doesn't slow it down...

have u checked for virus's, adware? is all drivers installed on xp?

have u checked for
virus's, virus free, only essential processes and nod32 running
adware? Xp is 100% clean
is all driver installed on xp - YES

I never knew it was a problem , I had the same 3dm05 scores since I had this card.
New xp install is not an option, only thing that is is perhaps bench my card on another pc with a clean xp, but I've got so much on xp config-ed and isnalled, I doubt I'll ever format it, at best I can do an upgrade of it to vista 32 bit but only when dx10 will be a must.

I only benched vista for the first time , as I just installed like 20 vista windows updates. Never tryed 3dm05 before that in vista, never knew my cpuscore could be so much higher.

In xp the cpuscore increase was noticable when I went from single to dualcore, I never expected more as 6k marks, as I had like 4k with a sc cpu...

have u tryed 3dmark06? maybe 3dmark05 giving the wrong readings in vista.

Not tryed 06 yet, perhaps I will soon.

Wrong readings?
I doubt it, the cpu tests were definatly smoother in vista, it's definatly not faking those framerates.

Gareth how long ago did you bench last time in Vista? There are a lot of updates ( look at the non essential hotfixes) and nvidia recently had new drivers too.

im gonna benchmark now with 3dmark06 to see.

Same here, ohwell, 3dm05 just prolly didnt use my cpu properly in xp or something, but vista is slower than xp:

Dark one is xp.

I may be wrong but if you installed XP with a single core processor then it could be that it is not multicore aware? I vaguely remember hearing about some problem whereby Windows still thinks it is a uniprocessor computer.

It was perfectly aware of the 2nd core m8 im 100% sure, it shows 2 graphs and it's an acpi multiprocessor pc, as it was natively because it originally was installed on a northwood with HT so it had 2 threads form start.
Besides, when I went from a p4 to a pD supreme commander was a lot smoother in the late game, the difference wasn't like 3 extra frames but went from 1-5 average frames with 5 ai's and to 10-15 average frames (late game offcourse, at start its around 25 usually).
Besides, If it wasn't (if the 2nd core wasn't workin in xp), the vista 06 score would be higher than the xp one, but xp score is better than vista's one in 06, especially the cpu score.

I know what problem you are on about tho, my dad had that problem on his x2 4200+.
