2007 Chinese GP - Race 16/17

Do you think Massa will try 'help' his teammate in Brazil?

You mean like first corner and Massa takes out both Mclaren's:eek:.

Hopefully everyone gets clean away and there are no dirty tactics during the race.

Looking forward to this as there are 3 possilbe winners, and there all very good drivers.

Wurz to retire with immediate effect.

Well that's a bit of a shock but considering his wife gave birth to their third child while Alex was in Japan I suppose he wanted to spend some time with them and avoid another long haul trip to Brazil. His replacement will be announced tomorrow but I'd be surprised if it's anyone other than Kazuki Nakajima.

One thing is for sure - The GP in 2 weeks is going to the most exciting and tense race in living memory.

87 With Mansell Prost and Piquet was more tense for me :D Hopefully lewis will suffer the same fate as Mansell ;)

97 was tense as well as a finale because the drivers were so close time wise lapping the circuit, instead of one driver pulling away.

It will be exciting thats for sure, especially if the three can stay within distance of each other. The way this year has gone though I wouldn't be surprised if it ends on a contraversy. Massa hitting a Mclaren or Alonso taking out Hamilton to give the win to Kimi.

Like Slam62 I will be glad to see the end of this season. The whole thing this year feels staged.

Yeah I read that earlier. Really surprising. He stuck at it for so long trying to get back into f1 something surely must be up behind the scenes for this to happen.

Hopefully nothing too serious but it seems a weird call.

Sounds like he's been planning this since Canada plus Frank wouldn't commit to giving him another year in the car. I can see him staying on as a test driver for another year at least.

Was that not 1986? When Mansell had his spectactular tyre blow-out?

What about 1994. Australia. Michael Schumacher Vs Damon Hill. Neither had one a world title at this stage, so MS wasnt super confident as he would go on to become. The race started where the winner takes all. MS in front of DH. Both pulling away from the rest of the field by about 1s/lap. They were both on fire that day. Then MS is pushing so hard he goes off and rather than retire, he comes back on the track and tags DH. MS retires and DH retires after coming in to the pits. MS wins his first title.

I still remember watching this race live, late at night. I was under the covers of my bed and cheering DH on.

'twas indeed. 87 was Mansell's big practice/qually smash in Japan that ruled him out of that race and the season finale in Adelaide.

So in general there isn't a huge precedent for English drivers picking up championships early in their careers - of all the English champions, only Graham Hill won his first race and first championship in the same year.

Yup, I was going to mention '97 but having a British driver in contention makes it so much more exciting.
1994 was also good but Hill certainly wasn't as talented as Hamilton.

I really want Hamilton to do it but I just have a feeling that somehow Kimi will get it.

With the pts gap being so small, it is impossible to predict who will win it. If we had another 10 races of the season to go, we could say the best car/driver combo would win it from here. Based on the last few races, we would have to say that Kimi is the in-form driver.

The winning or losing of the next race can turn on its head at any stage in the grand prix, if a freak accident (like the one Hamilton had in the last race) occurs.

I think Alonso and Hamilton have got an equal chance of winning the WDC with Kimi, the outsider (as he would be relying on both Alonso AND Hamilton to fail).

It wasn't really a freak accident, more a major stupidity.

I predict a collision between Hamilton and Raikkonen in the first lap and the Spanish git getting another title :(

The deal having collapsed doesn't necessarily mean they won't be entering next year, just it'll be in someone else's cars. It still looks unlikely though.
