I have a single GTX which is a fantastic bit of kit might I add but I fancy a change. With the new 2900pro's flashing readily to XT's would I see a performance hike in crossfire vs my single gtx?

I game at 2560x1600 (30" Dell).

You've got the aggro of Crossfire then I suppose. What's the price differential between a single 8800GTX/Ultra and 2 x HD2900XTs?

I'm looking to do the reverse myself - go from X1900 Crossfire to 8800 GTX/Ultra.

2 x 2900 pros will be around 150 - 180 each so anywhere from 300 to 360 for the pair. gtx range from 300 upwards. I wouldn't swap your crossfire setup to get a gtx as the gains won't be enough to really see the benefits in dx9 but if you want dx10 i think the gtx is the only place for you to go as anything other than a gtx ultra would be a downgrade in dx9.

Yes, Crossfire scales much better than SLi, and does not rely on profiles.

Just remember to take a very meaty PSU along for the ride. ;)

Come on w3bbo im sure you can stand the wait. :p

Dont mention the PSU.

He will go on for hours about how great his is and how much he got it for.

Make sure you purchase some ear plugs aswell

Watercooling. :D

A friend of mine just got 2900xt crossfire, his system is almost identical to mine, except I have a GTX @ 626 / 2000.

i get 13000~ in 3Dmark 06...

he gets 17000~ and they're running stock

They handle anything and everything without any issues at all, and nearly always significantly higher frame rates too.

Crossfire is leagues ahead of sli from what i could see of it, not only scalability, but compatibility too.

Iv'e been toying with the same idea too - that is getting two Pros and OC'ing them - though untill i cant play something at what i consider acceptable levels, i cant quite justify it just yet..

I'll be interested to see how it goes for you if you do go for it though :D

Tbh 3d benchmarks don't really interest me too much although I do run them occasionally. I heard that the 2900's have artificial scores on 3dmark anyway that don't transcend to gaming performance.

What counts for me is games performance at high res.

i would prefer if they sold much faster highend cards as the same time as usual high end cards, instead of this 8800 ultra crap..

i also would rather pay £100 more on a single higher end card than 2 in crossfire or sli cos the performance u get is not even worth half the price of the 2nd card that you buy

Shame they dont do that, they make ya wait a year+ for a better card.

Gaming performance will be leaps and bounds ahead in most games. I'll try dig out a good review.

Also at that resolution the GTX will struggle and start to show it's age. Especially if you even think about putting some AA on. 2900 Pro's it's a no brainer to me.

Well the GTX dosn't seem to be struggling atm but as always theres always something better (if it really is).

Well we team up sometimes at lan partys, and he had no trouble at all keeping up with my gtx performance wise when he had just the 1 2900xt, only thing is i was running at 1920x1200, and his screen is only 1680x1050.

other than that, i cant really say, i could a plug my screen into his system on friday and run afew benches in various games, but 1920x1200 doesent really compare to your 30" beast..

though it would give a good comparison between the the single gtx and the 2900 crossfire (at xt speeds) at the same res.

you've got me thinking about it now :p :D

Hmm...yes that is quite interesting idea Webbo. I am due for a rebuild myself soon. I'd love to hear how you get on if you do this.
