imo im suprised a 5/6 year old is actually on a computer =|

I was sat here next to her, and all she was doing was sending messages to her parents and chatting to a friend of mine who has kids so knew what was and wasnt acceptable to a child of her age.
I wouldnt leave her alone for a second. :)

My 16 yo has a fully customised myspace set up, MSN and multiple emails. She would die of starvation if I couldn't cook though :p

my little lads had an old laptop since he was 3 1/2 to use on the net.
He's 5 now, but can use Google no problem to find web sites of his favorite cartoon shows. Knows exactly where to go to get the cartoons on the transformers web site.
More worrying is that he can use the Sky+ box to record his own programs, then use the program planner to bring up the recorded programs and watch em!!

I'm not a parent but I'd be more impressed if they could read/write/count/spell properly. Maybe I'm old fashioned (at 23!).

Whilst not wishing to boast about my son but he reads, writes can do maths and spell. His reading age is 10 1/2 years not bad for a 7 year old. To be honest children would struggle on the computer if they couldn't read.

A lot of kids work is computer based these days so it makes sense.
She had no trouble typing out the words spelt correctly and reading them back to me, so I guess that means that side of things is ok.

Why's that? Or do you plan on keeping your kids in a cotton-padded box until they're 18?

My eldest two (5 and 3) have access to their own account, with restricted app. usage and website viewing privileges, and it's also time-limited so they don't spend all day on it (which they would, given half the chance). It just forms a natural part of what they do (as well as covering my house in glue and paint, etc).

Even the white boards are laptops with a big tft thing

EDIT

should also say they spend no more then 30 mins on it (which is prob still too long)

Would a 5/6 year old title the thread suffing or surfing? :D

Seriously though, scary stuff with kiddywinks of that age knowing so much, but watch them coming to you when it BSOD's :D

Erm, no you wouldn't , you are always impressed by what your kids can do. One of the great things of being a parent:)

If a 4 year old can learn how to use a keyboard (letters[spelling]) or use a simple interactive Internet game that uses colours to differentiate numbers and they can learn from that. As long as they learn from it, isn't that the point?Isn't that a good thing?

whats the difference from using a calc and a abacus? Apart from an advancement in learning?

The point is no one uses an abacus anymore they use a calc or computer, better that they learn young, be confident and dont give a **** what us oldies think:D

All very good points but if they can read and spell then they cant use pc !

am lucky my little girls can do all the above or they would not be on pc and they only play games that help them to learn :D

At 7 yrs old, i managed to bypass cyber patrol :o

The headteacher had left the passwords as our school name so it was quite easy to guess it. The first thing i searched for after unlocking the protection was 'boobs' on google. :D

I have had my niece sat at my computer and I have loaded up fifi and the flowertots and postman pat on you tube, shame you tube is full of crap now and some cartoons have been dubbed with voice overs and swearing.

She knows how to use my 360 and eject a game and put in fifa and the flowertots dvd.

and she only just turned 2
