Spec me a sleeper.

Personally for me its never been about beating people of the lights for exactly the reason you say. I prefer using the potential when on the move. For example, coming back from a track day last year I had a Civic Type R bumper to bumper. I was doing 40 (the limit) with him looking to overtake when it went to a national speed limit (70 in this case) As it opened up to a dual carriage way I kept to the left letting him move to overtake. When he started to gain I accelerated to a little over 70 keeping him well behind. Yes its childish but I drove within the limits of the car and road and at the same time had a bit of fun with a hot hatch.

Right, so you have to put up with the image, interior, quality, spec level, general rubbish things that "sleepers" have, daily, so you can have instances like the one above, which happens how often?

And no matter what you say, a Corsa is never guna handle as well as something thats been built originally for handling well in the first place with the same spend on it.

1.2 Corsa with a 2.0XE engine on throttle boddies.

Best part of 190BHP, standing 1/4 in about 13.5 seconds, 0-60 in 5, and top out at around 150MPH in somthing that looks pants.

Total cost of car + conversion about 3Kish then spend the remainder on insurance.

This is my bro's old car. He converted it himself one weekend. Standard 2.0L engine with full interior and the 1.2 peashooter exhaust. Got a 14.7 sec 1/4 at Shakespear race way. Total cost of this car including conversion was £800.

I know a few people who moan about this suggestion but IMHO its quite valid and pretty much as sleeperish as you can get.

Flame suit on for all those Vauxhall haters :p

Not flaming...more disagreeing. Im willing to be proven wrong here but I don't buy that at all. Where are you getting a 2.0ltr XE engine converted corsa for £800 ? I would have thought the cost of the engine + throttle bodies and any other ligth mods would be in excess of £1000 easily.

I know someone with an old Astra GTE box shape thing from the 90s. Ugly car very subtle apart from full front mount intercooler behind front bumper (number plat emoved to right gives it away). He has a Calibra 2.0ltr 16 valve lump in there, LSD, 6 speed box, and a nice turbo. Puts out 250+ and runs under 14seconds with full interior and road tyres on sensible boost.

Bit off topic that though as he wouldnt get insured or be able to afford that.

Corsas are £0-100. You can get an XE for £50. £250 for Bike TBs and a suitable fannymould. £200-400 for Megasquirt + Spark...

I also find the 0-60 time of 5 seconds to be very optimistic. A 190bhp FWD car, even though it may be light, will struggle to hit 60 in 5 seconds.

Depends entirely on the setup. LSD, sticky rubber, soft front end and hard rear would certainly do it.

it is dooable but with that amount of power I would be a bit skeptical, the 220 turbo weighs almost dead on a tonne with 200bhp and gets to 60 in 6.5 so less power and a lower 0-60 seems unlikely it must weigh nothing at all?

rover tubby! T 28 turbo higher boost forged pistons etc you could get it all for WELL under 4.5k

I was trying to resist... but yeah, this one.

After being sensible trying to watch my economy and commuting in mine all week, I've just come back in from having a blast.

Serious fun, fast on the straights and great round the twisty bits!

One like Si's old car would be absolutely awesome I bet.

Major fun!

thats the great thing, I have the same engine as you (obviously) and you can get such good economy it seems crazy I can get 34mpg out of mine on a run and considering the fun you can have in them as well, especially with compressor stall (I never get tired of that sound :p)

I know. I've been returning around 38 all week cruising at around 70 indicated. Even at 80mph, the economy is very good.

I'm bored of compressor stall now. Kinda ordered a HKS SSQV (clone) yesterday :o :D

noooooooooooooo how can you get bored of it, its so great for scaring people :p boost up to them let of the accelerator they look round then look really dissapointed when the see a rover :p I have a dump valve but its disconnected :p

I get the feeling that people hear compressor stall and don't know what it is... plus, dump valves are generally louder.

And the HKS just sounds orgasmic anyway  lol

Anyway, as not to derail the thread... ;)

Oh, I thought the 200SX had an SR20DET. What does it have and what would make an SR20DET Nissan Almera, a car reknowned for being a stunning drivers car, not, better than a stock 200SX?
