Car went in for MOT this morning. Passed, but I need new brake pads soon.

What do you guys recommend? Really want something with less dust than the OEM pads. I cleaned my wheels yesterday and they are covered in brake dust after only 10 miles.

Do I need new discs at the same time do you reckon?

when i had greenstuff pads there was considerably less dust then when i had oem ones not a huge amount of difference in braking performance....

I was thinking the same, looking for something with less brake dust for my Focus as the fronts are usually boggin after a half a week. Also I'm looking for new back brake pads for the Fazer :P

What a help I am to this thread!

Depends how worn the disks are :

If you change the disks you shouldn't reuse the already fitted pads, however clearly you can use new pads with existing disks.

Feel the disks and see how much of a lip they have on them.

I found Greenstuff pads dust very little (On white wheels) but some people don't rate them as very good.

Depends on how you drive and what you want from the car?

Also: Fade free at extremes or nice cold performance ?

That's the problem really. The pads that grip really well cause more friction and more dust. My 5 pads are Mazda OEM ones and they are good on the dust front, but obviously that doesn't help much.

Am I right in thinking performance pads tend to squeek/squeal? I always notice this on cars geared up for tracks or heavily modified brake systems?

Me and Pete have EBC Greenstuff on our cars and they seem to produce a fair bit less dust than the OEM pads. No issues with noises etc. either.

Mintex 1144

these have been replaced with the Mintex Xtreme.....chavvy name but bloomin good pads :) I have them and they don't fade at all with my st220 brake conversion. They don't dust a huge amount, but not little either, just similar to my old ferodo OEM ones.

I would personally reccomend changing the pads and discs seperately as they have completely different running in cycles....pads ideally want you to abuse them from the get go yet doing that on new discs will see them very quickly warped.

Cold performance is important as my cars typical usage is drive 5 miles to uni, park all day, drive home.

immediately after i set off i have a 4 mile twisty stint down the side of a rather large NSL hill, without even getting past quarter throttle I can get well in excess of what i perhaps should be doing on one of the bits about a mile in....and the brakes work very well to slow me down for the 80 degree, very tight, corner at the end of it:) Never had "oh **** my brakes are cold i'm not stopping" before

i have ebc yellow.. theyre meant to be low dust. thats a lie, there is plenty of it

i think the dust is pretty much unavoidable.

are the discs scored in anyway?

I've heard nothing but good things about Mintex pads, but they seem to give an average amount of brake dust. Probably no point changing your discs as, by the sound of it, you can manage until you need to change your pads again, then do the discs at the same time.

You sure they have been replaced? M1144's are more expencive than Xtreme's. I think they are carrying on the M1144 from what I have heard.

Hopefully I will have my M1144's on soon so will see the difference.

M1144s are only available as old stock now. The Mintex C-tech range has been replaces by the Xtreme range now and its a lot smaller range too.

Your probably better with standard pads Fox theres no such thing as low dust with good braking.
