UKFSN (Entanet) Really slow?

i have problems with lowering sync rates too, and i know for a fact that its not my line as apart from the past 3 weeks my sync rate was around 7520 and it was like this since i joined them, only the last 3 weeks its been up and down with the speeds.

With this new segment going live on friday, this should resolve some load issues, but is it likely to resolve it for very long?

that's just coincidence your line has deteriorated at the same time enta have been having problems. as mentioned above, your sync is purely down to the physical connection between your house and the exchange.

if it were an enta problem, then surely my stats would have dropped too? ;)

agreed this is a common question that needs to be understood that sync and bras profiles is not a isp issue but is an issue between your house and your local exchange.

Do you select which central to connect to, or are you automactially put on to the one with the most bandwidth available?

It's all basically random I think. Everytime you reconnect you should move onto a different central - sometimes I need to reconnect a few times before it moves me onto a good central, but it is great that this is even possible. AFAIK, no other ISP allow their users to choose which central to go onto, and even display the status of each central.

Last night I was on central 1 which was red and at 2MB. I reconnected and was luckily put straight onto central 5 which was green at 7.2MB :D
I think it is all luck.

BTW, for people whose sync's lower at night, this is probably caused by noise on the line. I had this problem and when I removed some unwanted wires from the mastersocket, my sync is now 100% stable at 8128kbps... Before I removed the wires, my sync was around 6000kbps, so it was a huge jump. Now at night my sync and SNR are 100% stable.

Do a google search for "DSL Extension wiring and disconnection help" and click on the first link, it has a guide on how to do this.

Neither. You have a 1 in 6 chance of connecting to a central if you wait 15mins from the last connection assuming they have all the segments are lit (there is half as much chance getting on C4,5,6 as they only have 2/4 segments lit.) If you disconnect and reconnect straight away your most likely to end up back on the central you came from thanks to BT caching the session (although don't personally have this problem). If Enta disconnect you, they will also remove the session to give a fair chance.

So if you stay connected 24/7, would you always stay on the same central?

I take it they have some clever software (or whatever) that will make sure a central doesnt get oversubscribed, whereas another doesnt have many users?

Provided your session stayed up, you'd stay on the same Central - note that you can disconnect (and thus change Central) without losing sync.

It's handled by BT and works by round robin, there's no load balancing at all (besides ISPs kicking users off the saturated Centrals and letting them reconnect to less-used ones).

Yes, unless you drop the PPP session you will always stay connected to the same central via the same LNS.

Yes, it is a person kicking you off. :p

I think a lot people had some downtime lastnight.

They defo need to get some more segments open because the last few weekends have been quite slow compared to when I first joined them. Tbh their still the best isp I've used as support is great and they are always in touch with their customers to let them know whats goin on. It's just my sync is getting lower and lower recently because of the slower speeds :(

Yeah my mate whos on ADSL24 lost his for about an hr at around 5-6pm, as i was taking the wazz when he came back on as mine was fine, i lost mine for about half hr bang on 10pm, that'll teach me eh. :D:D

The slowdowns to 2mb at off peak dont bother me, as i download in the peak hrs when i get full whack. :p

Does it really drop that much off peak? I would have thought its slow at peak times, but. I am about to get ADSL and ADSL24 is top of my list.. Guess a major drop at night is no big deal, but it does surprise me.

it's only recently speeds have got this bad. you're basically looking at 2-4mb between 10pm-2am weekdays and all day at the weekends. another segment is due to be activated this friday but i'm not sure how much difference that will make given how busy it has got recently.....

but at least pings are still good and normal browsing/streaming stuff is unaffected. you'd only realise the speeds are slower if you're downloading large files. :)

Ive only noticed it past couple of weeks where its dropped to 2mb at weekends and stayed around there, as ive had me full me whack before at weekends.

I have been in touch with my Enta reseller and they have assured me that another segment will be activated this friday so this is going to help loads and then a new central due for activation in February.

I believe they have 5 segments to light still, which will probably be done one every 5 weeks or so at their current rate of expansion.

I don't need any help, its fine for me, what they singling me out for.

;)

What I like is a lot of companies such as Virgin, Tiscali, Pipex etc would blame BT for slow speeds. They would give the usual spiel about rebooting your router, do the BT speedtest, log a fault and generally follow the script.

What do Enta do? Acknowledge customers are indeed suffering slower than usual speeds and light another segment up, and they still have plenty of capacity left to for the future.

I think they have a set period of time ie 5-6 weeks before they activate new segments as each segment costs near £100k i think:confused:
