Are 1 metre+ long floppy cables avaliable?

I have never seen a 1mertre floppy cable, most I have seen is 30cm. A Quick google tells me there aint such thing.

Nope, you cannot get them that long. Ive looked for one not quite as long as that, and have never been able to find one. Even the old mega long ones with the connectors for the 5 1/4 drives arent that long.

theres a reason behind it as well,

the signal going down the cable would de-grade to far to be useable.

Thats why when you bought those cheap long ide cables you sometimes used to get i/o errors and such, this is also an issue which can plague the cables that are sleeved and such. as you can get cross talk. but thats another matter lol.

Why do you still need a floppy would be my first question.

havent used one in years.

Some mobo's force you to use a floppy. My P5e lets you stick the bios on a USB stick (it's 2mb anyway, so would'nt fit on a floppy) yet you have to use a floppy for the AHCI/sata/raid drivers. Bloody stupid that is.

How about a USB floppy drive? You can get very long cables and wouldn't have to deal with that nasty ribbon cable. Most mobos will boot from it without problem and I've tested it with rigs as far back as 1999.

Bah, it's not for a floppy drive, I should've mentioned it in my original post - soz.

It's for my soundcard which uses a ribbon cable with exactly the same number of pins as a floppy cable.

Basically I need an extend version of this cable, so I can mount part of the soundcard externally... There won't be any problems with signal degradation as someone over at diyaudio has already tried this and it works.

I just wanted to check if anyone made the cables before I go to the trouble of DIY (ribbon cables are fiddly).

Look like I'll be making my own cable then... 34core ribbon cable is only £1.50 a metre, so it won't break the bank. :)
