3rd gear wheelspin in 1.8d escort!

haha i was sitting waiting to go onto a roundabout with a slight uphill start, saw a gap, went for it, didnt move farward...the wheels just span :D

I changed to second and all was well. Must have been funny for the the cars to see me sitting still with the wheels spinning.

1.4 almera btw :)

I wasn't driving dangerously/incorrectly for the conditions (if that's what you're assuming). Or so I thought at the time anyway. Had a good distance from the car infront, good clutch control etc.

But you're right I needed to adjust, and I did after the near miss.

i call BS.

you wouldnt be skidding everywhere and nearly rear ending cars if you were driving properly.

change your style before you regret it.

I was overtaking a coach on the M10 to St Albans with the missus going to my works Christmas party and was accelerating in 4th and at just below 70mph (car will do near 130mph in 4th) the rev counter zipped up bouncing off the rev limiter. Im damn glad that I have a very fast locking LSD because if I still had my viscous unit, I think I would be off the road.

It's awful out there at the moment. I clipped a kerb the other day coming onto a roundabout when we were in one of those "everybody apporaches at the same time and everybody gives way" situations. I started to go and then the bloke to my right decided he'd go as well, so I had to put my foot down a bit and the back end just stepped out.

I'm not talking foot to the floor here, just a tad more throttle and away she went. No damage, I just felt it bounce off the kerb as I went round.

I turned out of a junction at normal speed yesterday as well and got a little sideways. When coming back from the garage around the a60/melton/ashby junction I hardly had any traction at all, and once on the ashby road it was awful (roadworks, so plenty of damp or frozen mud), then near Ashby I overtook a bus and scrabbled for grip (although obviously I went for it there and so breaking traction was not a surprise).

Basically it's slippery as heck out there peeps, so stay back, keep that throttle light and have fun when you can :D

I've been driving for 3 years now. a lot of it driving at night, in winter on country roads.

I've not had one accident, either my fault or others. Also it was only last night when I had the problem, if it was my driving style it'd have been happening for the last month or so as it's been equally cold out.

Had a feeling all the self-righteous would raise their hands when I posted. ;)

I was getting wheelspin in 4th earlier in the week. Some fresh Eagle F1s appear to have fixed that however, have to use 3rd again now :(

i think the cold air is giving my car more power now as it wheelspins in 3rd gear. poooowwwaaaahhhhh!

either that or the cheap tyres i have on my car which still have lots of tread on are incredibly crap and it is in fact scary that they sell these!

make sure you keep DSC on and everything will be fine

:p

fair play, just your original post didnt come across very well. 'wheelspinnning and skidding' at every junction is something you can avoid in this weather. its not that bad.

;)

Please note, the accelerator pedal is not an on/off switch.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by mechanical sympathy, the letter G, and the number 12.

:D

its not the fact that your on black ice , uphill with bald tyres is it..;)

Gotta love the greecy roads at the moment for rear wheel fun.

Lets have a vote......@ what MPH can you get a wheel spin.

My records 60+MPH with a little help from sum long white lines :p

100MPH in the Noble in the wet. that was 5th gear. havent tried for a sixth gear wheelspin as that was worrying enough!

I managed to wheel spin all the way up a steep country lane last night....in 3rd gear....in a Focus 1.6.

It was pretty odd.....I thought my clutch had gone, revs were climbing, speed wasn't. But the tyres weren't squealing or making much drama. The steering went light though, so I know it must have been scrabbling for grip.
