Got a new car - fairly pleased, even if it is a diesel...

Picked her up a couple of weeks back and have been rather taken with it.

1997 Audi A4 SE TDi.

It was the demonstrator for Lookers Audi for a couple of months and had one owner since. Being the SE, it came with some kit as standard, unlike many A4's "oh, sir wanted a STEERING wheel with that - it's an optional extra...". Air con is spot on, serviced last year and best of all it's a nice low miler at 90k with full history. Doing about 48mpg combined which is saving me just over £100/month on the Xedos 6.

Hoping to put a leather interior in it after Christmas and then retail it on for more pennies than I paid.

What you all think? :)

I really dislike these but I'm not sure why as it ticks all my usual 'things I like' boxes.

How much kit has it got - you made it sound loaded but then you say it only has aircon and you need to fit your own leather?

Paid £1500 with nearly full MOT.

The standard spec as far as I can tell is keep fit windows, steel wheels and some doors. Comes with air con, alloys, upgraded sound system, full electric windows, electric mirors, illuminated vanity mirrors (why???) - not exactly fully loaded but for an A4 from the 90's it's above average. THe leather would finish just finish it off.

/Edit - I just said it comes with some kit as standard, not fully loaded

Know what you mean about the 'dislike' thing - never been on the list of cars to by and being honest I was drunk when I bought it, though I had been looking at it sober as well. Having now driven it, it certainly doesn't set the world alight but for the daily commute it is a nice car - feels much better built than the Mondeo diesel I had previously.

That's a good buy, especially if you plan to sell it on in the near future.

I will guess 4-6k?

Dude, you really are very out of touch with the car market. Which would be fine if you didn't constantly try to offer advice on what cars to buy :p

It's worth £1500-£2500. £4-6k gets a new shape model these days.

Actually I offer decent advice, if I wanted a more accurate guess I would have just looked up the market price, instead I guessed :)

The bog-standard came with the 1.6 engine or some with the 1.9tdi. They came with Audi's own tape player, keep fit windows in the back, steel wheels, no air con and no sunroof. They were knocked out to the fleet managers to help them make their reps feel special when it was actually a bag of crud. £1500 - £2500 is spot on, but for the £100 - £150 for fitting a leather interior, the regular Audi geeks get all exited and you get a much better price.
