Hey all, hmm choosing the right GFX card seems quite important, and as a gamer i'm stuck between getting a 8800 GTS or GTX :S ...

I'm looking at 2 cards at the moment:

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-059-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927

Or

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-042-BG&tool=3

I'm still trying to spec out my PC at the moment, but the parts i picked so far are:

Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Black No PSU
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Edition
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB

Still deciding on the monitor and no clue what mobo to get yet! (i may Sli in the future...)

So what do you guys think? I dont mind paying a bit extra for a better card, as its going to last me a few years i hope :)

What res is your monitor?

Get the OcUK GTX much cheaper, if you are on a 22" 1680x1050 display then the GTS might be good, but get the cheapest GTS 512, they are all the same no difference between the cards except a sticker.

If you want to play games maxed I rekon it'll start struggling by the end of this year.

Hmm i was going to go for a 22 inch, but i think i might go for a 24 inch in the end to make the most out of it in the long run, think its best i stick with GTX then? Ultra not an option atm? My friends also got the same problem so we just figuring out what to get :)

24" + GTX will be fine esp at that RES + lots of AA/AF over a GT or GTS 512, get the Cheapest GTX (OCUK).

Ideally be best to wait on new cards soon.

oh okay cool, are the OCUK ones good then? i have a BFG card atm and they rock :) really like them, and i heard good things about the BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 so was planning on buying that beast.

Its interesting how the GTX is actually becoming more competitive now the new GTS came out, as it suddenly makes it more viable financially. Before everyone would have just said "8800GT" when somebody asked what graphics card to buy.

Anyway, another vote for the GTX!

Aye. It's only a small premium for those who like loads of AA/AF and high resolution gaming. GT then £30 for GTS and then £30 for GTX. Absholutely shpanking if you ask me  :D.

Get the GTX.
The Overclockers one is good VFM.
The GT/GTS cards are tempting but when it comes down to it the GTX has more grunt.

or he could get the GTS and with the £30 he saves he can buy a VGA cooler + fan to heavily OC it and have a much quieter card than the GTX?

You might not care for much AA/AF at 1920+ resolutions but Xion might?.

The GTX/Ultra are still king at higher resolutions with AA/AF though so your point is somewhat flawed.

It depends on how he games. If he want AA/AF then the GTX is the better option for the 24". If AA/AF isn't a priority then the GTS would do for cheaper.

For £30 of a difference if you want to use AA/AF is a fair choice I think :).

I think the 'new' 8800GT is the best option myself and the prices on it will be £150 very soon.

The 8800GTS 512MB doesn't offer much for the price premium over the 8800GT 512MB, 16 more Stream Processors, slightly better voltage circuitry and a double slot cooler, however the 'new' single slot cooler on the current 8800GTs works better than the double slot so that makes the 8800GTS 512mb even poorer value for money.

Really your looking at a choice between the 'new' 8800GT or the 'old' 8800GTX, personally I wouldn't be comfortable shelling out big money on some hardware that is EOL and with 'next gen' from nVidia lurking in the near future.

Well it makes sence to either wait on new Gen or buy whatever will Game the Highest RES+lots of AA/AF (if that is what he needs/wants) and thats not the GTS over the older GTX, for £30 who cares.

Sometimes I dont get your Logic in threads Wayne m8. :)
