What to do with an old school xbox?

Guys,

I've boxed up the old Xbox (original) console for months since I've got my 360. I can't get anything more than £20 for the lot traded in to a highstreet retailer and I need to either throw it, sell it or make something useful of it.

What can I use it for?

I've kinda stopped the xbox original scene these days, too many good games on the 360 to occupy my time now...

I still have 1 spare dedicated DVD player around, the xbox is too big and no remote to serve its function.

Thus I'm wondering what more can it be turned into...
I did wondered about turning it into a Linux box and try linux but then, I might as well run a distro on my family's PC and if don't like it, uninstall it without going through the effort of installing on the xbox in the first place.

It is possible to turn it into a media centre right? Like what, record Sky channels or watching home medias - because since the Autumn updates with the 360, it does everything I need apart from recording sky channels to HDD...
 
Not that it can be talked about on here but the xbox 1 still has the best media player functionality I've ever seen.

Although its not powerful enough to play HD stuff it will handle just about anything else you throw at it.

When I had my 360 all highstreet retailers kept offering me £20-£30 for my old xbox plus games. Told them where to go and ended up selling it all on ebay for about £100.

You can actually turn it into a media centre, but I'm not sure if you can record from the telly etc. My mate used to stream media to his old xbox when he turned it into a media centre, but not sure if he could record.

What these guys said. Original xbox + XBMC + MS component cables is the best thing for media playback ever.
 
XBMC + RGB SCART + Xbox Remote = Best media centre PC you can get for under £30 :D

I've done some googling and honestly, I don't see what that can do that my 360 can't, plugged into the family's LG 32" HDTV via component (and networked to my laptop's music and medias via Connect360.

I might just give eBay a crack because the only remotely appealing things suggested is turning it into a small PC, what's the spec for it?

If not, turning it into a media box for my little brother's room might be useful~

A second hand xbox only costs £20. Give it a go and if you don't like it it then you can set it up for some one else :)

I don't own a 360 but then I don't have the desire or money to do so. My xbox is around 6 years old now and with the addition of XBMC it has been my best console purchase ever :)

RGB scart is only good if you have a CRT. Use component where possible.

I have a CRT ;)

No way i'm spening big bux on a nice fancy HD telly when I have two toddlers going round shoving food into stuff, and putting their sticky mits all over it :D
