Tell me about 3 series coupes e46? 2001ish reg

Thats another one of those fake Pistonheads scams. You can tell them becuase they've got information just copied from somebody elses Ebay advert. There is no way you can get a 330Ci Sport for that. Thats £12k's worth of car, and co-incidentally it's about half its value which most of the scams are.

Did look a bargain, sometimes they do happen. You just have to keep your eye out.

There are loads of nice 328ci's about in your budget. Should be able to get a 2000 model with reasonable miles.

I'd also consider a 325Ci Sport if you can find a good one for your budget.

Group 16, yea.

Some rough costs for you.

Tyres: £500 a set
Servicing: Oil Service £140ish
Inspection 1: £220ish
Inspection 2: £330ish

Thats if nothing goes wrong - common failiures are things like radiators (£300ish inc thermostat), wheel bearings, suspension components (upper and lower control arms are common - 200ish a side to get changed at an Indy) and so on and so forth.

Will need servicing every 12k or so if you spend most of your time in town.
Crikey, I paid £345 for a complete set of 18" tyres for the 330d. £500 sounds like a bit of a rip.

Is it a coupe you're specifically after? If not, the "5 series barge" is much better in the comfort and quality compared to the e46. It doesn't handle as well, though.

Were they nicked? Or some ridiculous Costco blag that normal people cannot get? Even on Mytyres you wont get change from £500 for 4 decent tyres in the 18" size.

Bets are they are linglong ice-skates rather than proper rubber.

I know I don't get change from £120 a corner unless they are made by a toy company.

No, just a set of 4 falkens from hawleys tyres.

Costco have a very narrow range, only michelins. They are OK for normal run of the mill cars and vans, but otherwise they are just too costly.

And might I add, the service I recieved from Hawleys Tyres is the best I have ever had from a tyre place, they actaully asked me what tyre pressure I wanted and how many people do I usually carry.

Well there we go then. For 4 decent tyres, it will cost proper money.
Funny you say that, they are decent, much better than the Dunlops I had on previously and just as decent as the Eagle F1s on my 530d. They have a good rep on BMWland, and I see why. I would have gone for the Eagle F1s as usual but they seem to have vanished and Good Year just said they are on back order.

The brand names aren't everything IMO

how does the tiptronic compare to the manual?

Autoboxes aren't very good in the E46, appear to be less reliable (we are have problems)
nor do they have a very clever "brain" in hilly areas. Tiptronic is near useless for manual driving, the only thing it can be useful for is overtaking, when you need to make a decision on an overtake you can keep in a high gear for instant power although kick down doesn't exactly take long.

Just spoke to my insurance co, my current premium on the ST170 is £957.

They have give me the following quotes for additional premium (inclusive of a £25 admin fee)

2001 BMW 328 Coupe - £175.41
2004 Civic Type R - Hell No
2004 Seat Leon Cupra R 225 - £68
2004 Clio 182 - £25

So the BMW is more expensive as predicted by Fox, although not unreasonable. Has made me toy with the idea of a leon 225 though.

lol i said 2001 328 (my bad) and thats the price they came up with, least its a ball park figure.

Cupra R, would be looking closer to £8.5k although ive not really researched them yet
