Just got back into PC gaming after a few years on the consoles having bought an 8800gts 512 OC from here.

What is the best racing/driving game for the PC, and does anyone know if Forza will be coming to the PC???

I have GT2 but it's lacking something compared with Forza.

Cheers!!!!!!!! I'm an old fart so go gently on me (30)

Sim:
LFS
rFactor
Race
GTL
GTR 1/2
Richard Burns Rally

Arcade:
TDU
DiRT
TOCA

probably others, search should reveal more threads on this, they come up quite often

For a sim game, LFS, no argument.

As for arcade games, I love Test Drive Unlimited on the Xbox 360, so it will probably be good on the PC.

Arcade:
LFS

No way! Its a game thats got no traction controls on all cars bar 2 of them, no ABS and its almost impossible to do a quick lap on a keyboard.

Edit - Oh I see what you did there ;)

The best driving game I have played on PC is still Need for Speed: Porsche 2000 after all these years. It's not a pure arcade racer unlike most of the series and the handling is great. It ticks all the boxes for me.... great track design, great cars (which feel significantly different), a great career mode with progression, and a fair bit of variety in races. Apart from Motorhead, it is the only racing game I have completed more than once I think.

Out of modern racers, TDU is probably the one I enjoyed the most, although somehow my savegame got corrupted which was pretty damn annoying.

A bit out of topic since this is a console game but if you haven't played any F-Zero games on Nintendo consoles you are missing out. It's a driving game but it might be quite futuristic for your liking. If you are into ultra hi-speed racing games then i would give it a look. Either try F-Zero X on the N64 (my fave) or F-Zero GX on GameCube. I am sure you will love them :)

I like GTR2.
Currently racing Porsche supercups in a league every wednesday.
Really challenging to drive, setup is most important.

The best driving game i've played so far is Flatout 2. I've played quite a few driving games, but flatout 2 is just so much fun and very addictive!. You can get it from steam, 1 and 2 for a nice price.

i was tired, was probably thinking of NFS...but then deemed it to rubbish to list all together

there is nothing currently that is comparable to Forza/Gran Turismo on the PC. The TOCA games are about the closest in terms of feel. Race Driver Grid (or whatever they end up calling it) looks like it could be a stunner later this year though.

The best sims on the PC are ahead of Forza 2/Gran Turismo (I haven't played GT5 prologue yet btw) in terms of physics IMO.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend rFactor with some of the best mods, GT Legends, LFS has a bit of a tyre physics issue but most of the cars drive very well and the online is good. Three excellent sims there. rFactor alone has enough mods and tracks to keep you entertained for years, especially if you join a good league.

No chance of Forza 2 on PC btw.

I don't regard Forza or Gran turismo as sim's. They both have a certain degree of arcade playability which is generally overlooked by the PC. You either get pretty hard-core titles such as LFS/RBR (seriously, if you need to worry about tyre pressures, it's no longer fun), or arcadey type games such as the NFS series. I think that only Codemasters titles get close to a blend of challenging but fun racing games.

The Trackmania series of games are excellent fun. They take me back to my arcade days playing PowerDrift.

My current most wanted game is the new MX vs ATV Untamed. The Xbox360 demo is awesome and I'm hopeful a PC release will come along.

Looking back I do agree that NFS Porsche 2000 was a classic. It was the peak of the NFS series and oozed quality.

GT5p is a lot more sim than the previous GT's But yeah id recomend LFS with a decent wheel myself :)

currently playing DiRT on my pc which i like and also loving need for speed underground 2 on my laptop, runs well and gets me through lectures :D addicted to it

Best driving game by far is Test Drive Unlimited. Very fun, very open driving. Cruising online with others is awesome too.

If you love driving, then this is your game. After getting so far into the game i only just drive around now, never get bored at all and the graphics are brilliant if your pc can run it.

Use the cockpit view along with a good steering wheel and your on with a winner there

I would agree if the game wasn't fatally flawed in the bumpiness of roads, idiocy of traffic, and completely broken multiplayer (on the PC at least, don't have it for the 360).

I'll second TrackMania United if you're looking for a bit of fun, can be found dirt cheap these days too.

Don't remind me!

TDU had such a great deal of potential. The roads can be so bumpy in places it is a joke. There is one car delivery task in the north of the island in an old car, if you follow the route suggested then when you go round a corner on a twisty, bumpy road the car gets damaged and you lose some money from the $90k and your bonus goes as well. :( I thought it was me at first so I tried it several times and found it suspicious that I kept losing money at the same place. Even the patch didn't fix it.

Then there is the traffic! :o Blooming awful one could say. I'll be banging along at 200mph+ in my Enzo Ferrari or my Koenigsegg and I'll see a car indicate to move lane. No probs, not in my lane but what is this?! The car is moving into my lane now and is undoing its lane change! Naturally I am going too fast and too close to avoid an impact and bang.

Don't know much about multiplayer, could never get it working! :D My flatmate and I tried to network the game online so that we could see each other and drive around together. We could see each other on the map and would be right next to each other but in the car we couldn't see each other.
