been with Nilly for 8 years and have been happy unitl recently

8mb connection used to give me pings as low as 6 or 7 ms in css always sub 25ms now i get 30-40ms on a good day

downloads down from 800+ to 400kbs if i'm lucky, torrents forget it sub 50kbs

so which isp are the gamers here using not to bothered about price but needs to be quick and realiable with no 18mnth contract in case its fubar.

I was with Nildram for around 5 years or so but jumped ship in the Summer to Be too, very happy with the service, LLU but if you can get it then it is very very good.

Currently getting 22Mbit downstream and the full 1.3Mbit up (I live 550M from my exchange :)) pings are pretty low, especially with the interleaving turned off and so far there is no evidence of traffic shaping or any intention to cap torrents and such forth.

Also £18 a month its bloody good value IMO, just hope their quality of service can hold up as they sign up more and more users and now share their network with O2 I believe.

Have a look at http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php

My parents have ADSL24 at their house and its always been pretty reliable, although I know at the moment Enta have some capacity issues at peak times (http://noc.enta.net) but at least they are honest about it and publish the stats for their central pipes.

4 out of the top 5 ISP's on that list there are Entanet resellers so that goes some way to showing how good they are generally, and I can vouch for their excellent customer support.

I am on eclipse 8mb, and play with ~15-20ms pings on COD4 + RTCW :) Though I do live in the middle of nowhere in norfolk where the population of my village have no idea what a computer is, let alone the internet, could be a reason why connection is so good.

adsl24 looks ok, I think somebody at work has mentioned them so they have no traffic shaping or what not. They not owned by tiscali or anybody crap?

bloody nildram I have had to create an email address to navigate their migration question page, talk about making it hard for you.

Oh nilly whatever happened to you :( , I used like explaining to people who and why i was a nildram customer. ( nildram rocked, well it did around 2000-2003)

I was also with nildram for about 7 years (I had ISDN with them! before broadband came along)

they have gone backwards from the day pipex bought them..and as soon as tiscali bought up pipex I knew it was time to move...such a shame as they really had been great..small well run and a good knowledge base, as soon as the big retailers come along it all goes down the pan

I went to Be* as well

my only worry with this is that all the 24/7 downloaders end up here and they cripple the service!! (this always seems to happen everybody jumps to who ever has an 'unlimited' policy and they end up having to bring in traffic shaping because people take the micky

I am starting to believe that I am just the luckiest Nildram user.
I've been with them for five years - still with them now.

I am close to my exchange - so I do get more or less the whole 8mb that I can get.
The only time I see any kind of slow-down is just as the schoolkids get out of school - and even then I'm usually at work so it isn't a problem.

Later in the evening and at weekends my connection is flawless and I can't remember the last time I did a speed check that didn't tell me I had a 6mb-7.5mb connection.
Latency is also great - simply put, no problems at all.

Just to add - I'm on Nildram too and never had any problems. Get full 8MB when the sender has the capacity and I'm about a mile away from the exchange.

,same as 1mb line absolute joke ! I am around 800m from exchange too my line stats are superb and was getting the max speeds uptil recently I am glad i decided to investigate this a few days ago I mean its not as if Nildram are a cheap isp either !

When I first got ADSL with BT back in 2004, my pings were always below 15 in games and the sort. Over the years however they have just got greater and greater until I left them, at which point they were around 40ms. The internet is getting more and more congested. I'm guessing things will just get worse. Shame really. :(

Same as above, excellent gaming and downloads. No problems so cant be bothered to change.

same set up i have had for years, its just a lowering of service since tiscali took over really any once i get my mac code i'm off. been good few years but i need a new isp

It might be the same setup, but that doesn't guarantee something hasn't broke.

Before rushing to move ISPs, it might be an idea to make sure it isn't anything you can fix - if nothing else, it's something you can tell your new ISP you've done if you still have problems and you might just improve on what you've got...
