Is 20Mb/s becoming 50Mb/s

As said many times the 50meg will be a new tier using a different system which is soley for the 50mb, so the 2/10/20 meg tiers will stay on the old system so it should give better speeds across the board although ive always got the speeds i should on 20m so i got no problem, this from cable forums on about it.

It's running on a different DOCSIS 3 system compared to the old DOCSIS1/2 and will be multistreamed. Also a lot of the 20Mb brigade will either go up to 50Mb or down to 10Mb (when the 4Mb upgrade finally gets completed) so you should have a more flattening of the usage on the old tiers which will mean on average people getting closer to thier max

According the the info on DS the new platform will be used for 50 AND 20 meg service.

20 meg user here and the speeds are consistently what they are supposed to be. Haven't really heard of anyone having problems, what are your sources?

consistantly what they're supposed to be? same here. up to 20meg service.

i would much prefer a solid 15/16 after overheads, but it seems this isn't possible.

Utter bull ****. I get 20meg for the majority of the time.

When it does dip, which is quite rare it'll go to around 15-17mb.

A little harsh there, kid?

So you get 20meg all the time? Good for you eh? I don't. I really don't see the need to call my comment "utter bull ****" on a family forum.

Woah gramps. When you stop making sweeping statements which are totally unfounded and lack evidence then I'll stop using terms like that.

Oh and are you a mind reader, does it actually have to be a swear word? Just because it's stared out means nothing...are your kids going to know?

ROFL :D

Am starting with the 20Mb service next week. I'm hoping to get near max speed, is anyone in the SP2 post code area that can confirm what you're getting please?

Being on 4Mb atm on a good day any boost would be welcome and I'd love to have 15Mb+!

Yeah right.. Who just quoted it, twice?

Oh yeah. *sheepish smirk*

What I meant was, there are other ways he could have displayed is disagreement, but I accept that in my haste I became a numpty too.

Perhaps I am in an oversubscribed area. I don't see how other people get the "full" speed or 19.5.

The only time I get high speeds is when I'm using downthemall and have 5 connections to one download. Using speedtest I usually get just over 10meg, but I also accept that these speed test sites aren't entirely accurate.

OpenDNS has sped page loading up a bit though, and the past few days I've had so many drops in connection when loading web pages.

Also apoligies for the "sweeping statements" about the poor service. I was only going by what I see in the VM newsgroups and digital spy. If you have a good connection, congrats. I feel happy for you.

So you get close to advertised upload but your download is poor? Seriously, have you checked your router?

I'm on 20MB (upgraded recently) i always knew the speed would never hit 20MB and cap at 20MB. for 18MB i think the extra cost is worth it.

the usual speed i get is 15-17MB, which i still think is pretty fast.

if Virgin media push us all up to 50MB ill be pleased, but as already said, it would cost Virgin media too much money to upgrade every 20MB customers modem's to the new standard... if only!

Not really bothered about 50mbit, I get a constant full 20mbit off usenet, and would get a full 50mbit constant off it, but 50mbit won't mean much because I know for a fact they will STM it to death, if they have to impose such stupid limits on 20mbit on an already struggling network, how the hell will they manage 50mbit, then again it's just a case of sign as many users up they can, then when they have the 50 meg oversubscribed and screwed up in the same way as the 20mbit, they can always use the old fail safe and blame the 5% and use the STM.

I think it was 1.5mbit on the current 50mbit trials I exepct it to stay the same when it is rolled out, they won't let the p2p kiddies ruin them with a large upload. David91 where abouts on Teesside are you? im in the Boro :)

Ah not been up that way in ages, I know a few people who live here now that did live up that way, there is no escaping the smog!

1.5mbit? What a joke :/

I can understand not wanting excessive p2p but if you do stuff like server hosting/development/etc, 1.5mbit is a bit poor when Be offer much higher upload (with the usual blah of line length in ADSL). I was kind of hoping for something that would blow Be's connection out of the water (for upload) :(

Yeah that is just for the current trials, it could change, but the way Virgin is acting right now, it is hard to see them doing anything positive.
