Graduates better off on dole than in low-end job?

JimpsEd I really don't think you know what you're talking about

- people taking CIMA, ACA, ACCA etc.. don't have to have an accountancy degree and certainly for CIMA - you don't actually need a degree at all (though most candidates do have one)

as for the finance comments - physics and maths post grads certainly are sought after in the city - it is pretty much a requirement for quant positions - though they are also in demand in plenty of other areas - risk management, and exotics trading for example

In fact if you don't believe me take a look at the job adverts themselves....

Risk manager:

"A strong educational background, evidenced ideally by a post-graduate degree in quant subjects"

FX Options trader:

http://jobs.efinancialcareers.co.uk/job-4000000000388571.htm

A degree in preferably Mathematics, Economics or Engineering

entry level quant position

The successful candidate will have been educated at a first rate academic institution and possess a PhD, MSc or DEA in a technical subject. You must have a strong mathematical background

i had interviews for several CIMA related jobs... degree in Physics

I'm better off than people with accountancy degrees for getting jobs as an accountant, assuming they did it at a worse uni

Seconded.

Doing work exp. at law firm and they were telling me that they love ppl on science degrees cause of technical analysis etc. etc. Only issue being that most people doing a science subject went on to do something science related :p
