lets say you filled your car up at a pay at the pump station and filled it to the max allowance of £60 worth, then after a week your bank statement shows for that fill up, you got charged just £1, would you feel a little guilty (is it classed as theft?) or would you feel a little smug?

I'd feel compelled to go back there again as a) i've just robbed £60 of their petrol and b) i might be able to get some more ;)

lol...

if 56 liters cost you £1 i wonder what deal they would do on my 19.5 liter tank :p

not sure if they can take the remaining money as i think card transactions are authorised for only a short period after which they can no longer debit your card.

If it is on a maestro card and is not taken after 5 days iirc then you can claim your money back, I did and got £30 of petrol for £0

Nice. I wish that would happen to me, I filled up my car today and I was thrilled to see that super had gone up to 119.5ppl.

i thought the norm was to take £1 just to make sure the card and pin is ok.

It puts the £1 back and takes the full amount a few days later ??

edit: Ignore me i didnt read its already been a week.

edit 2: My GF tells me it has taken 4-5 days for hers to show up on a few occations, she says check your pending items before you go spending the cash :p

Yes, its about 7 calender days that an authorisation lasts for, and if its then debited on the 7th day, its about 2-3 working days for it to show on your statement. However, if they keep the card number and expiry date, theres nothing stopping them submitting another auth a week, or even years later.

Well apart from the fact that you can claim it back, no.
