It seems with all the current turmoil in Naples, holidays around that area are very reasonabley priced.

Been looking at a week in Capri in July for £400 pp

I'm not really prepared to holiday in Naples (£300pp!) but an Island off the coast should be nice so

What's it like?
What is there to do/see?
How extortionatley priced are the bars/restaurants etc?

Hi there

We've only driven through Naples on the road to Sorrento and to be honest I thought the place looked a complete dump.

As for the Isle of Capri - we spent a few days there on our holiday and thoroughly loved it. The cafe's and bars along the harbour are very tourist orientated and the prices reflect this - be warned also if your afraid of heights, the main road is carved in the cliff face and its one helluva drop.

There's a few boat trips available taking you all around the Island and into the Blue Grotto which is well worth it imo. There's also a cable car takes you right to the top of the Island and the view is spectacular, here's a couple of pics we took:

Thanks for the pics, looks/sounds decent enough.

Should only really see Naples airport I would imagine, and the view from the bus window during transfers

I can already imagine the screams coming from the cable car in front as me and our lass ascend the mountain

That was my experience of Naples as well - we had a private transfer directly from Naples airport to our hotel and even our driver stated the place was a dump and he didn't recommend it as a tourist spot. Also dont be too disallusioned when your plane lands at Naples airport - it's not exactly what you'd class as state of the art or up to date, it serves it purpose though.

Which is exactly why i opted to stay in the coffee shop halfway up the hill rather than climb into one of those cable cars and take the journey all the way to the top. My wife took those pictures :p

I did go on the boat trip and like i said i thoroughly enjoyed it - for those about to call me chicken in my defense I can swim better than i can fly :p

I've been twice.

Both times on the ferry for a day. Wouldn't like to stay there for a whole week really but scenery may be your thing.

Definitely you will go up the epicly sized mountain and have a look at the rocks. IIRC there are gardens which you can walk around when you get up there too (I think, may be a different island haha).

You can get a funicular railway up to the "centre" and this is where you want to be. Fantastic engineering.

I wouldn't have said scenery was my thing per se, was hoping for some Italian food and drink and some sunshine too, I'm asssuming/hoping there's a beach/pool etc
