QUOTED :

" 4GB DDR2 memory modules are supported with this chipset, theoretically allowing for up to 16GB of RAM to be installed in a system."

That's good to know, lots of past/current Chipsets get issues trying to run 8GB because Slots do not like 2GB in each, and this can handle 4GB in each. :)

QUOTED :

" We find ourselves with two physical PCI Express 2.0 16x connectors for graphics boards. These can either be configured as a single sixteen lane slot (with the secondary slot disabled), or for multi-GPU configurations as two eight lane slots. Considering that every lane of a PCI Express 2.0 slot has double the bandwidth of a PCI Express 1.1 slot, this should be ample for almost any real-world situation. "

I'm temped, not sure if to stay DDR2 and buy 8GB or go DDR3+New Mobo or wait on next socket near the end of year but then I ideally don't want 1st Revisions of a new Socket.

Wow looks like a nice board tbh, but im getting annoyed at the way asus are going with those dam heatpipes. They just dont work lol, the last 2 asus boards ive had with them ive killed and one of those was a maximus formula

Heatpipes do work actually but you need some airflow in your case, I would never go back to active like 2001, all my Mobos from 2003 moved away and went passive sinks then later Heatpipes.

Small Chipset fans die faster too.

This is very true also but i have a v2000 at the mo and becase the board is backwards the heatpipes dont work propperly  maybe io should buy a diff case to try it ;)

I'm guessing thats a Case and its a weirdo upside down case (not even a real BTX Factor) which is now dead anyhow.

Some Heatpipes have a Wick and can work in any position. :)

yeh its a dead upside downy style case so thats prolly what killed my maximus . Never mind still looks like an awesome mobo , whens it out ?

kooool, might think about it but really want to start building my matx system so i can take it to lans . Also prolly wait till the new nehalm chips come out before i upgrade again

Question ? is this motherboard better than the Asus Rampage Formula x48 DDR2 board ?
and 2nd question, does the rampage formula x48 chipset get as hot as the nvidia 780I chipsets.....

becuse i see the rampage as fully passive :/
even the nvidia 780I chipset got really really hot and that had a small fan, wasnt so much the northbridge it was the southbridge that got real hot.

From what I have read then the board clocks as well as the Rampage Formula.. tbh given this has the PCI2 lanes I dont see much difference between them.. seen a x-fire setup comparison somewhere which shows you have no loss of performance atleast with todays graphics cards compaired to the rampage...

TBH as Cob says it maybe an e-pen board but hey its damm sexy :p and I shall be in the line to buy one!

Well we shall see, i bought the formula today and it should be with me tommorow its the board isnt up to it im well within my 30days OCUK rights to send the board back for a refund or replacment with the formula II board :P

It'll sure be interesting to see if it's really worth paying the premium for a ROG over a standard board.
