Hi Board

Would be very grateful for some opinions on my new build.

Machine will be used for graphic design with some pretty heavy multi-tasking, video editing and a minor amount of 3D work and music production. No gaming or overclocking required.

MOBO: Selected a P45 board for the 1600 FSB. The plan being to upgrade to the last generation of 775 CPUs when the price plummets. Is this necessary or will P35 do the trick?

GFX: No gaming, usage as above. Can add a second, similar card for not much cash if I require extra monitors.

HDD: A bit of an extravagance but by all accounts its a stormer. Feedback from some real world, non-gaming use would be very handy.

That's pretty much it. All opinions welcome!

I look forward to your replies.

Just built a Customers rig with a Asus P5Q-E but not done much yet apart from install Windows+updates and hardware drivers.

I had to swap and then crush with plies the Jumpers as the ones that came on the Mobo are that slack if you turn it upside down they can fall of with a bump of hand to rear of Mobo (peep might move case at sometime).

It's only 4 jumpers and I have plenty and dont really want comeback due to something so lame, the Easy Connect thingy for the case wires on all Asus Mobos I have used is the same, (falls off easy), so I do not use it.

Thanks.

However, I've just noticed that the main power connector is in a strange place. Will it interfere with the graphics card?

that is a good initial starting point

but do you need a retail version of vista?
do you really need ultimate?

wouldnt oem be better suited

my suggestion would be
keep: mobo, case, psu, ram

but change

get rid of the velociraptor and change it for a samsung f1 or western digital 640gb drive

ive included 2 of what i think that you could put in a raid array if you wanted speed/redundancy

if you are multitasking get a q6600

swap the retail vista for an oem version at least and then think if you really need the negligable extra features that ultimate provides over home premium
