Has anybody else had a bill today stating how their charges are increasing?

I am on Option 1 with no add-ons, and Sky supply my broadband. Line was taken out 3 months ago at a rate of £12 per month, I get home today to a bill from BT saying my monthly package has been re-evaluated and my new charge is £29.50 per month!

I am still going to be on option 1, how the hell is this possible? There are no terms on the contract to state after 3 months the price will jump up by over 100%.

anyone else had this? I cannot find anyting on the BT site either.

ah i cant help you then mate - sorry, although ive never heard of this increase either AND BT dont just 'evalaute' your situation and then double your price ALSO - you haveto resign a new contract for them to do this - im sure of it. I would scream if i were you.

You've misinterpreted the information in your bill.

From the official BT Price List said:
Unlimited Weekend Plan is available for an inclusive fee of £30.00 exc. VAT per quarter (£35.25 inc. VAT). For customers who receive VAT inclusive quarterly bills the charges on the bill will be shown as three VAT inclusive monthly fees of £11.75. The fee includes the following:

What they're almost certainly saying is that your monthly payment plan has changed. This includes calls. If you're spending that much on calls, and most of it is not 0845/0870/premium, then you'd be better off on one of the other options.

I am going to explode when I get home and phone them.

I have never heard of anything like this before, it even says

"Don't worry as you pay by DD we will automatically take the new amount, so you don't have to do anything" at the bottom. No you ****ing wont be!

They are saying my monthly payment plan has changed!

The thing is we don't make any calls, I have made one 0845 call since the line was put in.

Before you scream and shout at someone from BT you need to think clearly. Its not the person on the end of the phones fault. Although as i said - if they change your rental then you are likely to be out of contract with them and can go elesewhere. Be aware that BT offer a 28day period through which all customres plans can change.

Then you need to check your bill very carefully to see exactly what calls they claim you've made, and if you haven't made those calls, contest them. Good luck - these arguments usually end up getting circular, but having unknown calls on your bill is not unheard of. In any event, shouting will get you nowhere - they will most likely just hang up, and rightly so.

Well, ask them who requested the change to your calling plan as apparently it wasn't you. Could be an honest mistake. No point getting lairy with 'em. It'll all get resolved :)

Their site says that it's still only £10.50 p/month for Option 1 (with paper-less bills and direct debit payments), so that's all you'll pay.

Can you scan the bills and post them up ( take of your address and account numbers of course ).

Sounds like you have been put on a call plan OR they are call charges for supposedly called numbers.

Some worrying info for you - ive just asked by BT manager and he said the following: 'its in BT's terms and conditions that they are allowed to up peoples rental as and when they want' - OFCOM let them do this, much like gas companies and electricity companies. Its very very common practice but customers just dont read the terms and conditions in order to find this (and why should they to be honest - we should be able to trust BT) - why else to British Gas offer 'capping' - something that they call a 'benefit' when it isnt really.

You do know that BT bill you Quarterly? (least every 1 I know they do..)

Is it your first bill?

edit* o you say it says per month :)

Yeah it is quarterly bill, however I pay it monthly. And it cleary states on the bill my old monthly payment of £12 then next to it, it says my new monthly payment is £29.50

No it's the second bill.

Did you pay the connection fee up front? Reason I ask, is we are having our line connected soon and they told us they would put the connection fee onto of our bill if we dont pay it up front?

Have you tried calling them?
