On the road....
Hi all, I'm upgrading my Dads PC after the heatsink fell of his previous Pci-e Nvidia 7500 which subsequently died.

I sourced an ECS 8600GT 512MB from Oc/Uk yesterday but can't for the life of me get the damn thing to install.

The device is found, but the install fails with "An error occured during the installation of this device - Access is denied"

I've tried removing the read only tab from C:\Nvidia with no joy, I can't think what else this could mean?

Any ideas? - The PC is a Packard Bell IMEDIA 1959 which has a Gigabyte GA-8TRC410MNF-RH motherboard as its base.

Any help appreciated! :)

I have the exact same card and brand..I had no problems with mine with installation.
Maybe Packard Bell are like Dell and don't like people upgrading with products that are not purchased from the company.

He might be logging in as a Guest or restricted user account. Also try downloading the latest drivers from the site (although not likely to fix this issue, but worth a try also).

Still getting the same result regardless of Account (tried administrator) safe mode etc etc

Also, got latest drivers, the install wizard runs fine, detects the card etc and fails at the very end with the "Access is denied" message.

:(

Viiiiiiiiiiiiirus.

Go sweep the computer. If that isn't it, try new drivers, or try installing the drivers from a different place.

- Huw

No Viruses on the PC, its clean.

Tried Numerous drivers, both downloaded and from the driver installation disk, all with the same result.

Its something to do with registry permissions I think....

right, looks like someone will have to make a custom driver inf file for your card to get the drivers to install.

post up a screenshot using gpu-z so we can see the sub-vendor and device ID. as an example of what you need to give us, here is a screenshot of the card in one of my machines.

I'll post a picture when I go back to my fathers house, later in the week.

If the drivers don't work on the install disk that comes with the card, I fail to see how a custom one will work ???
