1.4 saxo vs 1.4 corsa

Corsa all the way, loved mine, brilliant little first car. My brothers saxo VTR had crap brakes I seem to remember and was a bit of a shed in comparison.

Just go and try them both and see what you like - its all personal preference at the end of the day and what condition each car is in.

I'd have a Saxo over a corsa, much more fun to drive.

But then I'd probably have almost anything, over either of the two ;) Like a Fiesta, as said above.

I did learn to drive in a Saxo and whilst the 1.5D was...slow, the pedals didn't bother me. The cramped feel of the interior did though

To be fair, I can probably think of horrer stories about Audi/BMW/Honda/Merc/VW etc etc, if a car is overheating then chances are there is a problem that needs looking at rather than keep topping the water up!

Yes, they are closer together than a lot of other cars, but thousands seem to be getting along fine every day. They couldn't be easier to drive either.

And in answer to the OP's question, get the Saxo, even if it is the 1.4, Corsa's are liking driving snails with horrible clutches, even the newer ones.

I dont like driving saxo's because the driving position feels all wrong. Not much space for my left knee and the general driving position feels twisted and uncomfortable. The brakes are... well non existant really, you need legs like arnie to get them going. I got over the close pedals in about 5 mins, so unless your driving in rigger boots you should be fine.

My brother has a 1.4 corsa and in comparison to saxo's (except VTS) its not slow at all.

In answer to the op, go out and drive both then buy what you like the best.

Yea cos everyone wants to spend £2000 on insurance :o

My first car was a 1.1 litre G reg fiesta and that cost £1200 3rd party to insure, so anything above a 1.4 is out of reach for most people.

To the OP, look at fiestas as someone has already said, or clios

I had a G-reg Fiesta, 1.6S - that was £900 to insure TPFT in my own name...

You just have to shop around for the best quotes.
 
I used to love how easy it was to fling my VTR around corners, it really was great fun. I used to drive it quite hard most of the time and it served me well for 3 years but as it was reaching the ~20,000 mile mark things started to go wrong and it felt like it would fall apart any minute so I decided to get something Jap. My MR2, on around 88,000 miles feels rock solid compared to the Saxo.

How about looking at a 1.4 Civic or similar?

I'm with you here..

I only passed on Thursday but i'm 20, and insurance on my 1.4 Clio is £1750 fully comp.

I don't think I would even get a quote on a Civic Type R

Acutally it does have loads of airbags just not a passenger front one, i forgot about all the others .
