Been reading the motherboard threads for a few hours. Still not been able to decide on which board i'm best to get. There seeme lots of conflicting comments.

What i want is a board that will OC my Q6600 GO to 3.6ghz stable 24/7 and allow me to crossfire a set of 4870's (yet to buy). I use 8GB of OCZ Platinum XTC 8000 (1030mhz) and Vista 64. I also have an OCZ Gamextreme 850w PSU. I don't really want the DFi as they seem too time consuming to get to grips with the huge number of BIOS tweaks.

I'm stepping up from a 680i and though not perfect (far from it!) I am looking for a board that is as simple to set-up as this was.

Your comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Rampage Formula is very good if you want to cough up close to 200 notes. If you want to save a little money on that, a P5Q Pro will also do an excellent job, for half of that :)

I thought it was best to go X38/X48 for the 2 x 16 crossfire support instead of 2 x 8??

Sorry, missed the crosfire 4870 bit. The X38 P5E is a good board and much cheaper than the Rampage Formula. X48 is nothing more than a cherry picked X38 anyway. Hunt around and you can get them for £120.

I wouldn't go for an Asus or a Gigabyte if I were you, I actually had bad experiences with these brands...

When resellers offer a 1 year warranty and Asus the 2 others (up to 3 years), well... Asus sends you back to some unknown company charging you for considering your problem. Then if the problem is not included in the warranty conditions, they'll send the stuff back to you. All this happened in France, but I'm afraid it works the same way in the UK... Beyond that, some have seen their mobos lost or got them back with even more problems than before... So I would highly stress that you don't choose an Asus, this brand doesn't deserve its reputation anymore!

Concerning Gigabyte, if you want to overclock, you'll have to take an Intel chipset... Unfortunately, Intel based Gigabyte boards tend to boot in a loop... Still in France, I bought a brand new Gigabyte from a famous e-shop, and it never booted up... New and out of order, such a shame! Then I found out that all the Gigabyte boards based on P35, P45, X38 and X48 had this problem... you won't want to choose this brand either...

Then you have MSI, though I don't know if their overclock capabilities are good... Abit ones are quite famous in France...

I was just warning you about the problems you could encounter with some brands... Hope it helps!

I've never had any probs with gigabyte mobos at all, and I now use them exclusively for all my builds. Never had to rma any of them though I suppose theres first time for everything:)

I only use Asus and have no problems with them....The P5E is the board for you with 16x16 crossfire support and overclocking is easy and my Q6600 runs at 3.6 with no problems. The p5q board has a lot of good things said about it but you dont get the full benefit of 2 x 16 lanes for crossfire....its up to you :)
