Anyone living in or around the Milton Keynes area know of any decent all round family restaurants that sell pub type foods like Steak ale pie, Steaks, chicken dishes, salads etc with a few drinks before and after and we can relax and talk over our drinks /meal etc?

I am going to treat my gf and family to a night out, as I’ve got some overtime money I didn’t expect, so be nice to take them all out for a nice meal….

The only places I know of in Milton Keynes are the places in the MK centre, they are all ok but what about something with a bit of character such as a good old pub style place, I’d like to find a place I can take them all without asking them first, be a nice surprise as I’m always asking where they’d like to dine, be nice for me to decide a place for once..

Thanks..

Oh and reason for asking is that I don't know MK all that well.....

I really enjoy TGI Fridays near the Theatre in Milton Keynes.

I'l try think up some better ones and post again :p

Are you just after pub type grub ?

TGI fridays is good, been to a few of the lakes which is fantastic in the summer as you can site outside and enjoy the areas around you but now its winter a nice pub meal would be just the ticket for us all....

Thanks....

Oh also this pub is great Ship Ashore. They do fantastic food some great ales and beer. Lovely place people are really friendly the pub itself is very clean

That is so freaky, I was looking at a place almost like that in Westcroft as this is where I'm living, just off erm.... Childs way???Near the westcroft shopping area, I get so confused with Milton Keynes but anyhow that looks a good recommendation.

Ship Ashore it is then... That'll make a nice change...

You can see the menu and ales etc.... shame I can't find the 2 - 1 voucher for burgers, but other then this that don't look too bad... Prices are very good, and choice looks excellent, thanks... that'll do just nicely.

There are some good pubs for food, The Barge in Woolstone, Ye Olde Swan in Woughton on the Green are my 2 favourates and least "Chainy" if you know what i mean. Not sure on children though so you sould check that first.

MK Center has allot of chain resuraunts and bars, very little character but if you head out a little way then you get allot more choice. Good food in stoney stratford as well, Fox and hounds was good food lastime I ate there.

If you want chains then lots of new places in The HUB , Xscape or the theater district.
When I moved to MK 12 years ago there was nothing, its got allot better.

hehe. Westcroft does have some nice places. I think i roughly know where you are on about.
You will get used to MK quite rapidly i guess its easy for me since i grew up here.

Hope you enjoy it :D

Ember in westcroft is called The Nut and Squirel, Its ok the foods nice the beers cheap and the staff where freindly when I used to live in westcroft, I havent been for a while though.

A few decent chain restaurants in The Hub, maybe not what you are looking for in terms of family food though? I live in The Hub but still not visited everywhere, so much to do :p

I often go to the hub after work, mos to fthe places are good, only one I would advise against is GBK, I was sick as a dog after I went there, cant be sure it was them but im not going to chance it again.

I’m finding MK to be an excellent town. I’m loving finding new places, its nice to live somewhere where you can one minute drive to a bustling centre such as escape or the hub, or just down the road, depending on how the whether is, take a walk around a lake….

Ha Ha bar and grill is ok…. I actually took my gf for a date there, it was one of our first dates, as she lives in MK, reason I’m on MK now.

I know Shenley a little. I’ve been to the Harvester, and the Harvester just near J14 M1 in MK – that’s really nice. But we’ve done the Hub and Harvesters and Lakes a lot so wanted to find something else….

Upon saying all this, she has a relative that lives in Fishermead? That was interesting, I didn’t feel safe, so MK isn’t all great but overall its fine.

Thanks for all your recommendations…… Much appreciated.

I would recommend the Harvester in Loughton as mentioned by Master_X. Free unlimited Salad bar is a bonus too.

The Harvester is good, Red Hot in the town center can be good, but very busy and doesnt serve steaks (its a buffet place). If you're after a more up market place, theres the expensive but nice The Swan in Salford (just off the east side of Milton Keynes near Kingston).

Try the Crooked Billet in Newton Longville

Or the Bell Inn in Beachampton

I've still never been to the Hub!

Stony is great if you want something more Ethnic, but not much choice for British food.
