Hi all

I am used to amd overclocking & i have never had a intel cpu till now.
but i would like some good overclocking tips & maybe a guide or 2 if poos please ! :D.

my rig is =

i7, 920 cpu
asus p6t deluxe oc palm edition
6GB corsair xms3 pc3-12800c9, 1600Mhz
zotac geforce gtx 280 amp 1024mb gpu
stock cooling in a coolmaster master rc-1100 cosmos s case.
enermax galaxy 1000w psu

i have upgraded the bios to 8.04.
i get 17000 in 3dmarks06.

i have just changed the qpi too 150 to get 3.10 Ghz & set the memory to 1.61v but i can not see aoption of 1600Mhz memory setting in the bios... .
i now get 18869 in 3d marks 06.

also i am using in my apc software powerchute only 51w !!! is htis right just for internet & office use ?, like i say i did use a amd last with rivatuner on & that was using 250w all the time !, so is there some sort of power save mode on the mobo ?. i did remove a powersave software what came on the driver cd.

also does the gpu card up its own power when it needs to or i play a game ?.

many thanks all

I CAN NOT SEE any memory multpliers sorry.

i have a asus p6t mobo running 8.04 bios.

i have set the qpi at 150 so i am running a nice 3.10 Ghz oc now.

but i still have the standard intel cpu fan untill a better one comes out.... then i will oc more.

any more tips & helps folks welcome.

That one is the memory multipliers. They just use the actual scaled memory frequency.

150 x 6 = 900Mhz
150 x 8 = 1200Mhz
150 x 10 = 1500Mhz

You can use the x10 1500Mhz with your ram, 1800Mhz might be too much for the ram. Remember to increase the unclock UCLK to twice the memory frequency or more. Usually tops out around 4000Mhz, so min 20 x 150 = 3000Mhz. Keep the QPI around 3200Mhz.

cheers mate, silly me haha.

can i use the 1503 one as my memory is 1600 ?

& what is 150 x 6 or x 8 ?
i know i am using 150 qpi but what is x6 or x8 ? i am lost again now whoops

No problem, takes some getting used to.

Yes the 1500Mhz is the nearest and that is a x10 memory multiplier with a baseclock of 150Mhz. Set the UCLK to twice whatever you set the memory so 20 x 150 or 3000MHz.

right right, i get the idea now me thinks... so if i use 160 x 10 now i should get the full 1600 memory speed.. ?.

cheers mate you are a star...

i just need better cooling on the cpu so a can go a bit more on the overclock.

Thats it you got it.

core 160 x 20 = 3200
mem 160 x 10 = 1600
uncore 160 x 20 = 3200
qpi 160 x 18 = 2880

Oh btw, take note. I have a feeling you are massively overvolting (1.6125V) that "QPI/DRAM core voltage" 1.35v would be a lot with that vcore, keep it .025-.05v lower than vcore. I'm fairly sure that's not for the DRAM which is the usual recommend 1.65v or less if you can. Scroll down a bit you will find the DRAM bus I believe. It's poorly worded by the looks of it, I'd say that's the memory controller voltage.

Be careful with those Auto volts. Personally I hate them, they have a nasty habit of overvolting as you scale baseclocks. I've seen some extreme voltages applied by Auto settings.
