The Secret to good Festive Mince Pies?

Just maked sure it's not actual minced meat.

This will probably be the most useful answer given at this time of the morning. :p
 
I never liked them as a child, so haven't had one in years. since I came to uni I've found I like a lot of things I didn't like when I was younger (e.g. coffee, whisky, vegetables) so I might give mince pies another chance this year.
 
Just get a pack of dessert shortcrust pastry and some Robertson's (or better) mincemeat.

Takes no time at all and pwns most/all shop bought mince pies.
 
don't put candied orange peel in them! it tastes foul and has a nasty texture.

its like chewing on soapy plastic :(

Whisky (or other liquor), drench the mince-meat in it first and let it sit for an hour. You can always make the mince meat better by adding in a few fresh crushed nuts (walnuts, pecans etc), a few extra glace cherries, better yet is to put in some dried cranberries.

Back in the day when we were at school in a HE leason, one of my mates did actually make this mistake.

Mince pies i can just about stand with a scoop of ice cream, or bit of double cream, however traditional Christmas pudding is the work of the devil.
