Anyone watch Ross Kemp in Liverpool?

How do you need to act?
"Act" may not be the best word. I dont mean there are things that need to be said or done, nor anything silly like that. I mean the manner in whats expected to give and take from being around people like that. In other words, street-wise.

Forced national service for repeat asbo offences. Now I'd be well behind voting for that.

I wonder how they would cope not having access to all their north face gear and having to actually keep their hands out of their pants.

"This place s**ts on Afghanistan" ... Oh I'm sure it does mate, I'm sure a bunch of kids are worse than the war in Afghanistan, nice one blud init mayte...

I would love to see these little sh**s give it all that to the taliban, they would be running home crying for mummy within 5 mins.

As what would happen if they did the same to a "real" gang.

They're just kids thinking they're hard, but unfortunately they hurt the lives of people that come into contact with them and most of the time there is nothing that can be done about it because the police are worthless.

I think if the police or schools have problems with young offenders /chavs then they can by law send em away to the army to be disciplined. Dont send em to prison, sit em down have a chat, tell their parents off. Send em to spend a few weeks under the army doing basic routines, they will learn much more.

anyone disagree with that? because if i was in power it would be there, i think i would rather have tax payer money spent coming up with schemes for this than going into their pockets, might get something out of em for once.

Yes I do. I would much rather have a professional, well trained, well motivated, volunteer army than one filled with these sort.

Media, putting out a program about how dangerous <city name is here> because of the <insert scape goat here> to distract the general public from going outside and seeing that it's not all that bad, and the real problems are with the way the country is run.

The following is my personal opinion. For the record I am South African.

It actually makes me laugh at how pathetic gangs in the UK are. These young kids that think they are 'well ard', trying to act like american 'black' gangs and getting into the whole hip hop culture with hoodies etc.

I dont mean any disrespect to any victims caught up with this foolishness and Im sure there are legitimate hardcore criminals in the UK, but coming from South Africa for example, there, that place will instill the fear of God into you if you happen to go into the wrong area. There they will first murder you and then rape you and then rob you for £10 and not bat an eyelid.

In SA the vast majority are poor and cast aside and dont have many options in life but to turn to crime. Here in the UK, everyone has been given ample opportunity to do better in life but yet they think its 'cool' to act like a muppet and carry knives etc.

I personally point the finger at the parents for not instilling respect and discipline at an early age. Bring back corporal punishment! it worked for me, every kid feared 'the belt' or 'cane'.

The police do a fantastic job here, but have to spend most of their time dealing with petty, wannabe fools trying to be 'hardcore', it frustrates me to no end watching shows like 'Road Wars' where the police actually catch the crimimal for eg. drug dealing or acting like a drunken lout and is only given a slap on the wrist.

One of the stats in the Ross Kemp show was that in Liverpool there are 65 shootings a year and 15 of those are fatal. That is like stats for 1 day in SA. Most of the crime isnt reported in the news as you would probably need a seperate newspaper just for criminal doings, and everyone doesnt get in an uproar over it because its just too 'common' an occurence over there.

I reckon take these 'gangs' to a country that has had hardships and gangs rightfully forming to survive and see how they do there. Im sure they would then catch a wake up.

Now before anyone has ago at me for expressing my opinion.....I moved to the UK 5 years ago as the situation in SA was just too dire to live there. The fear of being robbed or shot at any second does play on your mind but accepted as 'thats just the way it is'. The UK is awesome and I love it here, but its really let down by these yobs that think the world owes them a favour.

Oh well thought I would just have a rant...thanks for reading :)
Totally agree with you.

Never been to South Africa myself, but seeing Louis Theroux's documentary on it provides a BIG contrast to the "street problems" we have in the UK.

It's actually pretty funny: The UK + Gang problems? Please! This isn't a third world country!

I can understand immigrants from third world countries causing trouble in the UK because it's an environment they have experienced. That said, I'm equally disgusted by immigrants who totally disrespect this country and its people.

However I do not understand "poverty stricken" families in the UK who cause trouble. The government will provide them housing, food, water and most importantly - education. If you live in the UK, you do not suffer from poverty. So there is no excuse why people should turn to crime/gangs.

Maybe if the government dropped all these wannabe thugs off in a third world country to fend for themselves for a week, they'd appreciate living here.

i agree with that.

the more fearful we are, thee more reliant we become on the government to do something about it.

Excellent post there. :)

Are you suggesting that little Jimmy, aged 15 and leader of the Toxteth Tweenies may not actually last the day in South Africa ?

i agree with that.

the more fearful we are, thee more reliant we become on the government to do something about it.

Which is what the government would like, and the media would like, Don't believe everything you read. Nothing is as bad as it sounds in the papers.

The problems with the "youth" are probably the same problems we had 50 years ago, there will always be underage sex, violence, drinking, drugs. Just now the media like to make it public knowledge, that if you see a young man in a hoodie you're more then likely going to be a victim of a crime.

I didnt watch the whole of the show...got too annoyed so dont know exactly who Jimmy is but, yes I do. The convo would go similar to.

Jimmy: oi bruv, can I score some weed like? I as a knive innit bruv
SA Gangmember: *point gun....bap bap bap* *queue rape and pillage* *walk calmly off*

"What would you do if a lad from Norris Green came into Croxteth?"

"I'd chop his ******' 'ed off, an' den I'd keep shtabbin 'im in dee 'ed even dou iz 'ed wozzun even on iz neck"

Yes, that's what you'd do.

That program angered me so much I nearly turned it off. As others have said, it serves only to make these little gimps (for the want of a better word) feel like they're celebrities, and show Liverpool up in a worse light.

I'm from over the water from Liverpool, and Birkenhead is populated with the same sort of scally rats. It's hard to say that I'd like to see them all die; at the end of the day they're a product of their upbringing and in some respects their fate was sealed as soon as they thunked out of their horrible mothers. [/gross generalisation] However, at what point do you say enough is enough, they have to be held responsible for their own actions, and bring out the bolt-gun?

Whilst I agree with other posters on the fact that they certainly don't out number the decent people out there, they're unfortunately a growing population. Just like rats (how far can I take this analogy), they breed more than the rest of us, so their population is slowly growing exponentially. Soon we'll be awash with these nasty critters.

Perhaps sterilisation is the key?

Back to the program: the funniest moment award has to go to either

1. "Yesh, dats a rerrly good point dat russ."
2. "So a' found out she wuz in de Netto, so a' went down der n' butted 'er into a freezer"
3. "He jush threw de' bike behind 'im, 'ee didn' noe dat it wud smash de window"
4. "He was known simply as... THE DEVIL"
5. "He was known to Christians simply as... GOD" [Okay - I might've made that one up]
6. Russ: "So what do you think of the Croccy Crew?"
Noggy Nogheads: "SHCUM! DOGHEADS! [WTF?!] RAPISHTS! SHCUM! DOGHEADS!" -
Russ: "Well, it's obvious from that interview that they're all intelligent lads"

As a parting note, during the interview with THE DEVIL did anyone notice how angry Kemp looked? You know that's because he was outraged somebody didn't know his name...

hey i have belived this for years. i have a cousin who is so fearful of going out to certain places and is always worried the way the world or at least our city is going.

i look back to the 60's and even the 80's and i see it was much wilder barbaric times, riots , gangs, much more stabbings , mods v rockers. etc etc

we rarely see trouble ourselves first hand, we get our experience of the outside world from second hand sources, and our opinions of the world we live in is purely based on what we see on the news NOT what we have experienced for ourselves.

the media is such a unbalanced viewpoint, as it only depicts bad news, and so people who are invested into it will over time become negative on their surroundings ,as positive news just doesn't sell papers and tv time, and 'news' IS a business , not a service.

lol slylittlefox :)

btw did anyone watch his show the week before (may have been a recording) when Ross Kemp was in pollsmoor prison in Cape Town interviewing members of the Numbers Gang? compare them to gang members here.

As someone said previously.....UK isnt a third world country so why try to act like one?
