Having a debate here about whether the 9800GTX+ is downgrade from the 8800GTX.

Mate has just got one back from RMA of his 8800, he saying that the lower memory bandwidth of this card over the 8800 makes him feel it is a downgrade and he isnt happy.

I feel this is actually an upgrade and he should be grateful!

Pretty much like for like in all honesty!

He should have a big smile on his face if it's a "+".

It's debatable whether a 9800GTX is a downgrade or not, since in general they are back in fourth in games. But the 9800GTX+ will overclock far more and run cooler. I'd only feel cheated if it was a BFG as some people got GTX260s back

Yes it is a downgrade, as the 9800 GTX is just an 8800 GTS 512mb with a new name, and the '+' is just an 8800 GTS 512mb thats been overclocked as well.

Mate he's got a 9800GTX+ 1GB, show me some benches where it doesn't beat an 8800GTX, where the FPS are playable ie over 30FPS.

Yes and its still a downgrade, as it may have 1gb, but its only got a 256bit bus, and even Nvidia confirmed it was lower than 8800 GTX when it was launched. :)

Its well known, and as i said Nvidia confirmed.

Once you crank the res/AA etc...whats going to be faster, exactly, the 8800 GTX. :p

EDIT: Benchies here :- http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gts_512mb/page4.asp

As you can see the 8800 GTX is faster.

From the conclusion :-
Thanks to its high clock speeds, the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB is probably the card most enthusiasts will lust after. The GeForce 8800 GTX and Ultra are still faster overall when you really crank up the AA and screen resolution

That's against a 8800GTS, when we are talking a about a 9800GTX+. Which "although" is a rebadged 8800GTS it's one with much faster clocks.. ergo faster in general.

There you go:- High res and AA/AF in a selection of games and the 9800GTX+ is ahead of the 8800GTX.

END OF, especially if your deluded enough to believe that 8800GTX is faster, and to prove your point you show it against a 8800GTS. I'm not going to bother any more now. If you show me a 8800GTX is faster then I'll eat my words.
