Mainly directed at those who live in the Buckinghamshire areas or Milton Keynes and Northampton /Bedford etc...

Anyone got any good recommendations for pub with pub evening meal in Olney? Me and gf are always going out in Northampton (where I'm from) and Milton Keynes (where we live now) and thought it would make a change to try a small town... You can sometimes find some decent pubs in small towns if you ask around....

I've been told 'the green man' in Olney is quite good. Any recommendations?

Turvey is lovely, never heard of that pub though although probably been in it :D

Loads of queint little villages and nice pubs, but honestly could not single any out. My parents would know, plus our neighbour has been to some very nice ones.

Oh wow, it is a small world, didn't expect Olney to ever get a mention on here :D (my other half lives there).

When we want to go for a really nice meal, we go to "The Wine Bar", http://www.olneywinebar.co.uk/.
As you can guess, it won't be the classic restaurant, but a bar that's been split in two, but it has great food, great staff, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights :)

Or if you would rather a chinese, the one we like to go to is called "The Old Shanghai", www.old-shanghai.co.uk.
Not a particularly special place if I'm honest, but the food and service is very good.

Hope that helps :) (just re-read your post, and realised you don't sound like you want a chinese, lol)

Chinese sounds good, but MK and Northampton has loads of Chinese places... MK has a darth of good old fashioned pubs, so thought I'd venture out of town and take a look and see what I can find...

Thanks all...... Olney will make a change for me and the gf this weekend.

Chester Arms in Chicheley is nice for food if you like steak or fish. Good atmosphere, the staff are nice and drinks are cheap.

The inlaws live in turvey.

I love it so quiet and peaceful.

theres a superb Thai place on the road between MK and buckingham, just after you leave the A5 on the main road. probably about 10 mins from MK.

I'd recommend The Swan in Olney, the Chester Arms in Chicheley, The Carrington Arms in Moulsoe. I haven't been to any for a while though so they may have changed. Also The Swan in Salford is supposed to be really nice.

The Bull in Olney is supposed to be nice now too, avoid The Two Brewers though and despite them changing their décor I don't think The Two Brewers has improved much.

The Old Shanghai and the Four Pillars are also very good if you want a Chinese/Indian.

Who are the inlaws? I probably know them!

The Three Fyshes is indeed a nice pub, although I think the Three Cranes just up the road near the church is better for food - or at least used to be - Cliff, the awesome landlord from the Cranes defected down the Fyshes before Xmas, so he might have taken the good food with him.

Either way, both are nice pubs, both serve excellently kept beer (if proper beer is your thing), and have a great atmosphere.
