I've spent 2 days now trying to get xvids to play from within media centre, and had to do serveral restores after trying......EVERYTHING.

I'm back to media centre working, and giving the codec unavailable error on playback.

I've install K-lite Codec Pack x64, and now when I select a Divx file, Media Centre Crashes...

Please help, while I have some hair left to pull out.

Cheers :-)

first thing to do is to completly uninstall ALL codec packs then download ffdshow should fix your problem

With K-lite you get a Codec Tweak tool, tried using that to detect/fix the problem?

Also reset to recommended settings.

And with the K-lite codec pack you need the 32 and 64bit packs.

optimus, have you actually tried the divx codec and remove everything else? I tend to install just the codecs that I need.

Having said that I wonder if it's related to it being 64-bit as divx plays without hassle in VMC32 for me.

Anyone help me any further with this?

I've installed the latest vistacodec pack and vistacodec x64 components, and Media Centre still crashes which I try to play divx files.

Any suggestions plz.

Not particularly helpful, but I will say that I flirted with x64 for my HTPC and after a few weeks of trying concluded that performance and compatibility were poor so reverted to 32bit Vista.
