Strange that there was no mayday call, makes it sound like controlled flight into terrain (it was foggy with some snow, plus it was night so not beyond the realms of possibility).

Initial reports and information suggest this wasn't the case. Given the severe icing in the area and the tendency for the wing of the Dash 8 Q400 to ice up when flap is applied (consistent with the stage of flight) it looks like the wings iced up and control was lost.

Aviate, navigate, communicate - in that respective order. At 2000ft with a stalling iced up wing, there probably wouldn't have been time to make a mayday call.

All speculation of course but it makes sense.

Yup, just read about other flights in the area reporting their wings icing up, so that does indeed make more sense.

Starts at 17 minutes in. Colgan3407 is the callsign. The controller tries to make contact with the aircraft then when that fails he tries to get other aircraft to look out for the missing aircraft. Despite knowing an aircraft he was controlling has just crashed, he remains very calm and professional through the entire thing.

enable safe search...im at work so im guessing thats why u guys are getting more results.

then count how many results there actually are

lol the latin was gibberish but what i wrote about the google results is dead on accurate.

im at work so i have safe search enabled...i cant risk porn popping up.

i also get 52 if i disable safe search i just checked.
if u enable safe search then if you count the resuts it will be 13....and the page that is listed twice on the first page will have a list of 50 names on it.
exactly the same number that died in the crash...49 passengers and the guy the plane hit
