I just got my 4870X2

Installed and running, it idles in the high 60's close to 70's
It also get very close to 90 when at load.

I get weird crashes and distortions in Vantage and my score wasn't very high.

I've tried driver 8.12 and 9.1 and it's the same, although it crashes more with 9.1.

When I play CS there's weird discouloring and Crysis just crashes after loading in :/

I'm using the CRT because it has a massive res, and because my 24" LCD isn't here.

I'll up the fan above 50% and see how it goes.

The problems persist even with the fan at 50% so far :(

Was defo a heat problem coupled with drivers.

Seems 8.12 and fan at 65% is the sweet spot for me.

I can fold and run Vantage now without any problems.

Ati 9.1 is just horrid :(

I'm glad I'm going to watercool because I don't really like a small hairdryer on my test bench so much :p

glad you got it sorted

whatever the res, its a 19" crt (18" viewable), thats the problem
The size isn't a big deal, unless you hate sitting close to your desk and screen. My 19" CRT screen was right up to the edge of the desktop, and I would sit with my face maybe 12-14 inches away. It's perhaps not as ideal as a 24" screen or bigger, but it does the job.

I've always thought CRTs had a noticeable better picture than LCDs. There's more warmth and life to them.

i still have a 21" dell sony trinitron that does a ridiculously high res, its a flat screen (not like a goldfish bowl above :p), i never use it and i never will, its too big physically to sit anywhere yet the screen size is small

Yea i've got an fw900 24" CRT which i firmly believe is the best monitor ever made. I can run it in 1920x1200@85hz but i generally prefer to use 1440x900@120hz and wack AA etc up. The smoothness of 120hz vs any lcd is just

I've seen/owned/used the vast majority of high end lcd's to compare it to aswell.
