Hey, just got my 285GTX, took out the 8800GTX and tryed to put the two 6pin pci-e cables and they wont fit into the 285gtx, even though they appear to have the same shapped holes in both graphics cards.

lil help please? Thanks

use a torch to light the sockets, hold a plug facing you next to the socket and directly compare the shapes, are they the same ?

What PSU do you have ?

Yup and ive tryed brute force and it only gets them in half way. Yet they fit in easy to my 8800GTX. Also the 285GTX came with a molex to pci-e cable without the bottle middle pin and that fits on easy to both graphics cards.

But both graphics cards can tke the bottle middle pin, so im confused as to why this wont fit.

This is a bad day, not only did i have to put a hard drive into my flopy drive cage, i also broke another hard drive and now this!

You mean the molex adapator thing that came with it to take 2 molex and turn it into 1 6pin pcie? yup that fits on both graphics cards. But i only have one so not enough to power the card properly and would make my pc a total mess in an already very small case with an aditional 4 cables.

As your PSU's don't fit, same happened when the 9800 GX2's came out, everyone had to use the adapters or cut/file their 6x Pins as they wouldn't fit.

Nvidia said it was because the PSU's didn't follow the correct layout, but their cards did.

So dispite the fact they fit in perfectly too my 8800GTX, they are not the right spedc? and dispite the fact my psu is made by one of the best. Great.. i only have 1 adapter, thats not enough :(

And why would i be the only one to have had this problem?

They fit in half way, i would have thought they wouldn't have fitted in at all if this was the case. This is quite frankly rediculas. OCUk don't even appear to sell them. And ive never seen anyone else have this problem on the forum. I dont see how only i could :S

If they fit half way you'll have to file them down to get them in properly.

Is it not the little catch on the 6x Pin plug that its stopping on, you know that little do da that you press down, then pull the 6x Pin out.

Might just be catching on the shroud.

The fact they go into halfway says to me maybe a metal pin is bent somewhere where the actual connection is made.

My old 9800pro was like that, needed me to be very firm with it to get it on, I was convinced the connector block was going to snap off the card! Glad I had to use an extention cable for it as I could never get the damn thing back off lol!

Ok then i got angry and forced it and they go in pradcticaly all the way, just a few mm out. but the pc appears to be working so im guesing its getting the power it needs? Not sure what stoping it goin in any further as i cant see anything that might. But yeah, i gues it wont boot if its not getting the power.
