I see lots of comments about the launch of the 4870 but nothing relating to the Nvidia upgrade 275... does anyone have info on expected launch for this card?

I'm afraid i just find Nvidia more pleasing to my eye, personal preference i'm not knocking either product.

The only thing stopping me getting the 260 now is that 216 shaders - I belive the 274 will be upto 240 like the 285 and 295 - making it a very worthwhile update imo.

I thought you sold your desktop a couple months ago and moved to laptop gaming? Swear I saw it in the MM.

The man is right :) I still have the laptop, but got board, it's been 10 months with no hardware to play with so i'm in mid build. I had a file server box and i'm basically converting that to a store centre, overclocking rig. So far I have...

P5Q Pro
E6300 [email protected]
8GB Corsair 6400 4x2gb
8 x 1TB Hard drives in 4 1TB Raid 1 Arrays via Perc 5i
3 x OCZ Vertex 30GB in Raid 0
Ati 4850
Coolermaster 1100 S Case
Tripple rad water cooling

Plan on going i7 and dual or tri SLI next month. Waiting for the right parts

I know what you mean tbh - I'm no fanboy and will steadfastly recommend the best option for someone's budget whenever, regardless of brand, but Nvidia cards have more of a quality feel to them and the driver control panel is better too IMO.

Re the 275, it's annoying me really. Faster than a 280, but with a lesser memory interface = eh wut?

It's more confusing market positioning from the big N :(

Been no talk on the 4870's launch here for months. :p

The 275 is due out the same day as the 4890, Thursday April the 9th, and according to Nvidia's partners, its only slightly faster than the 260.

The 275 is only a 295 in half (one of its cores), so i doubt its going to be faster than a 280, as the 295 cores are only the streams of the 280, but clocks, bus, memory etc... of the 260.

So it is essentially easier to manufacture on a large scale? They either slap two boards together, or sell them singly? Sounds like a way to get costs down.
